Roadside burger vans, your experiences

Stopped at quite a few and have never had a problem. Everyone I have visited the food has been perfectly fine.

What do they do if they need a p?

I heard they go in a bottle and never wash their hands. They are there for hours at lunchtimes.....

Written by someone who has never stopped at one. People are always chatty and happy, standing around waiting for some food. Ones in permanent places will be legit and they have to have Hot water and such by law to wash and clean.

Erm well I have actually... Can't remember folks waiting for food being happy and chatty, but then I only stopped for some easy on the go food and I was on my way as soon as i'd paid my £3.50 for a double cheese burger..

Skipped on fries.. !! lol

There is an epic one near my home. Does the biggest breakfast bap you have ever seen plus a drink for 3 quid. Only thing that put me off for a few weeks was treading in a human turd on my last visit...

Just outside Portsmouth in Bedhampton, there's a hill with a burger van/lorry in a layby. Plenty of parking and the area overlooks Portsmouth - possibly some of the best burgers here!

Interesting because I go to Portsmouth quite a lot and go past Bedhampton on the way home. Anything more specific as to its location besides "on a hill"? :)

The ones on the A1 have always been notoriously poor on the quality front in my experiences, wait for the services and go for a BK or KFC.

Cant touch the King and Colonel. :)

There looked to be lots of lorry drivers hanging around and imo lorry drivers tend to know where the good places are.
Ha ha, you make it sound like they're connoisseurs of food or something, do you really think lorry drivers care about quality food much? I can't see it myself.

I've had some good old burgers and kebabs from vans, a lot of them are just greasy food to keep you going on a drive which is good enough, theres a couple locally i go to a lot, one in wickes carpark, one by the groundwell industrial estate for anyone whos interested, they're both pretty good, good portions and cheap.
Some of the ones i've been to are rough though, these are the ones around bigger citys, london, cardiff etc. "have a soggy burger in a stale bun with watered down ketchup" mmm, no thanks, rank.

.

Wow high and mighty. They are the same as anyone else. They aren't going to go back to ones which are terrible. You aren't expecting high quality food. But bacon, sausage, egg, mushroom rolls taste fantastic and they are going to go to ones hey know are good. Just like anything in life.

There was a Roger Cook report on burger vans. Lot of them don’t pay VAT, criminal links, poorly supplied meat and all sorts which gave the trade a bad name, shame really as 'some' of them might actually provide a decent burger or plate of bacon, beans with chips and egg etc…

But then the guys who run these places always look absolutely tired of life. People come out of the grim warehouses and moan about their bosses and their long hours to them, it's a place where lorry drivers, office staff, pickers and packers commiserate together about the misery of existence, which no doubt makes the burger van chefs (if you can call them that) feel even more depressed, while they breathe deeply off the carbon monoxide leaking from their dodgy gas canisters.

Check the finger nails, if they are as dirty as hell, stop off at the next one 5 miles down the road… Plenty of choice…

Is that the World of Darkness version of the Roadside Cafe?!

I used the be a van driver many moons ago - they're fine. You need a bacon buttie in you before, during, and after a long trip.

How did you know it was a human one, shape, smell, texture or taste? :p

Micks Monster Burger Bar on top of Portsdown Hill, make sure you get the right layby as there's one up there that's known for dogs, or something like that... ;)

The all night burger van just before blackheath hill on blackheath is spot on. Had loads of grub out of there any never had any issues.
