Roadside burger vans, your experiences

Micks Monster Burger Bar on top of Portsdown Hill, make sure you get the right layby as there's one up there that's known for dogs, or something like that... ;)

Near the DRA facility? if so then that's been there for years!

I don't eat them often anymore but theres a bit of a mixed bag around here. There is a few that are a rip off and the food tastes sub standard.

There is one that is fairly decent called Hollywood Diner or something similar and I had eaten there several times before but there was one occasion about a year ago when a friend and I stopped there and it was a different person cooking, we both had a breakfast bap and were both quite ill that night for about a week after which we put down to the food which tasted a bit funny.

The best one around here though, I have to say is on an industrial estate, van looks rubbish but it's the best bang for buck - £2.70 for a large fresh french stick, filled with bacon, egg and cumberland sausage and it tastes decent enough/not too greasy.

Can't say I've ever eaten from one, but there was a van parked on the road just outside where I used to work a few years ago. All the guys in my office used to go out there for breakfast etc. We eventually found out that he used the side of our building as a toilet and witnessed him have a pee, get back in the van and serve someone straight away :( They didn't go to him again...

No, that's Mr T's. You want Micks, it's just along the road from there, opposite the Churchillian Pub.

Micks is open 24 hours a day. It shuts on Christmas Eve, and opens again on Boxing Day, then remains open until the next Christmas Eve.

And on the way home from the pub I have no choice but to walk past it :D

Some of the best burgers I've had have come from a roadside burger van.

There's one up in Preston in the Roman Way industrial estate that is very good, and another down in Braintree by the BP garage/Vauxhall garage.

I sometimes stop off at the one on the A46 just north of the M4 J18 on the way to work if I've not had any breakfast at home!

I would much prefer to find a van that's got a few truckers parked up beside it than carry on to the massively over-priced service stations where it costs £8 for a burger and some fries!

Just outside of the Canary wharf buildings if you pop down past City Pride (pub) and turn into a carpark under a building on the right (before Audi garage), you will find an awesome little van.

Taken there yesterday by one of the contractors I sit with and had a subline Bacon/sausage/onion sandwich in massively 1inch thick door stop white bread. £2.50 and pure OMGWTFNOM !!!

There was a van in Wisbech i went to and it had an offer of "Eat this 1 lb burger and get another one free". I ate the 1lb but then failed at eating the free one :p

Got to my local van almost daily since high school, hes been doing it for 20 years cant beat a heart stopping, sausage bacon egg tattie scone and cheese roll :)

Just outside Portsmouth in Bedhampton, there's a hill with a burger van/lorry in a layby. Plenty of parking and the area overlooks Portsmouth - possibly some of the best burgers here!

Micks Monster Burgers are a shadow of their former selves. Still make a cracking burger but they used to be so much better!

i don't know about on-motorway ones, but there's one in Coventry city-centre that does fantastic food.

then again, i'm highly resistant to food poisoning*, so i wouldn't know if they're diseased or not :p

*just recently, i was drinking milk that had gone off for THREE days and the only symptoms were unusual bowel movements...
