Whisper it... SW:TOR in January

Its stated quite clearly in there this is not the case. They have not even released all the classes yet or started beta. I'd expect end of 2010 at the earliest.

Its a near impossibility that it would release in January. If it did the game would be an utter mess. As someone said above, at the absolute earliest I would expect the end of 2010, but frankly I wouldnt be at all surprised if it was 2011.

From other sources it sounds as though this may have just been in relation to a comic.

edit:

Just read a bit more, the original quote about "out in January" was from Dark Horse's Jeremy Atkins at the Baltimore Comic-Con talking about publishing the Star Wars: The Old Republic webcomic. Still think it's an early friends and family stage of beta. Or he might just of got confused and been thinking of Mass Effect 2.

Its been in development since 2005 behide closed doors. Could be in a more advance stage than people think. Depends on what there in house testing team is like

Its not true, the community rep who made the interview with the magazine which claims that has cleared it up by stating they have not yet announced a release date.

Doesnt really matter if its been in development since 1985. No MMO which has ever released with a short public beta phase has ever been anything other than a mess. If they released in 3 months time , having not even had 1 public beta phase yet, the game would be a total disaster.

In house testing with 60 people is enormously different than hundreds of thousands of people with hundreds of thousands of hardware and software combinations connecting to the servers with thousands of different connection IPs and speeds from dozens of different countries. Let alone that hundreds of thousands of players will try to break geometry, do things in pve and pvp that they havent even thought of trying, try every exploit idea they can think of.

I would expect a minimum of 3 public beta phases, for a time period of around 7-9 months. Which assuming they started this month would take until next autumn. Then add onto that the inevitable delays that crop up resulting from the things discovered during the beta phases and the end of 2010 or 1st quarter of 2011 looks very likely.
