Nokia N900

Nokia ARE committed to releasing multiple firmware upgrades for the N97. Version 2 is just around the corner.

It may not be their top phone but it's still their top Symbian phone. The Symbian and Maemo teams in Nokia are separate and so what happens with the N900 will not affect the N97 in any way. It will get as much support as the N95 did. I promise. :)

I really hope that this is as good as the vids show. It looks like the sort of thing the N97 should have been, which is rather annoying for those who bought one, but for those of us who didn't....meh tbh. Phone tech moves on at an amazing rate, in 12months, the N9XX will be released and we'll all be in the same boat. Will it have enough apps? Will it do X, Y and z? DOes the 'hand job' app come with it??? Who cares? It's a phone, you are stuck with it for, at worst, 360-370 days, even if you don't buy one sim free. I have never seen out an 18m contract, fails4U will always buy you out, on a new 18m contract, give you the cash to pay out your old contract and give you a nice new phone for £35 a month.

Fox - get a new contract at 6 months out of 18 and get a free N900. Downgrade your tarrif to £20/month. Sell your N97 for £200 on the bay, then pay the remaining 11 months off for £220. So it costs you £20 an a little hassle to get an N900 - no-brainer tbh.

6 months is rather longer than 2 months.

If I was confident Nokia would stick with fixing the N97 I'd be less irritated.

err the N97 was release in July I believe? So thats August, September, October, November - 4 months, anyway stop complaining! It was a free choice.

The N900 looks great. But tbh, the absence of MMS means i won't be getting one.

It bloody ridiculous I agree - MMS will be coming in December though.

When this is released I hope operators will be doing some decent tariffs for it. This would mean I wouldn't have to buy the phone (or little hopefully) but could be tied to a lengthy, probably 24 months contract.

Currently i've got an N95 8Gb and an O2 Simplicity £20 p/m contact (600 mins, 500 texts and unlimited web). The phone is mine and i could flog it to put towards a sim free N900 and I like the fact it's a 30 day rolling contract and it has plently of mins/text etc and the unlimited web is a gem. But when i'm browsing on my N95 the internet reception is awful. I hardly get 3G and when I do it 40% of the time fails to load a page, saying 'the connection was interuppted by the host'.

Now i'm sure that's not the phone as it's a brill phone and probably one of the best around still (IMO). I'm sure this is the O2 network as I know they have the worst 3G coverage, but does it affect iPhone users? I never hear about them losing connection all the time?

Wow I derailed quite a lot there....in short funds pending I will hopefully get an N900, lol.

£75 off, does not sound too bad, Il try to hold out until after christmas maybe, especially now that I reflashed 810 last night and guess what, standby battery life is up. So there was some pointless task spinning al lthe time, shame actual usage time is still poo.

Oh my gaaaad - the N900 has an N64 emulator - mario kart/goldeneye on the tube!

(It also does Quake III, of course)

Thanks, was hoping for a vid of it running. But looking at that thread, seems like it may take some work to get the n64 emulator running on the phone, until someone complies it all properly anyway.
