I've either just made a big mistake, or made a good purchase.

Basically, I was looking to build a PC myself and had a budget of £2500 - This was for everything; Tower, Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers, Gamepad, Thermal paste, the lot.

Anyway, I have just committed to buy a 2nd hand machine (just the tower) off an auction site for £1000. The guy has had over 500 transactions with 100% positive feedback so I'm thinking "surely he can be trusted?". I'm bricking it a bit now however because I've heard so many horrific stories and now just hope that everything turns out OK?!?!

Anyway, the specs are as follows:

Core I7 920 D0
Gigabyte UD5
2 x BFG 285 GTX O2
6GB Dominator GT 2000MHz
2 x Crucial M2 64GB SSD
Bequiet 750W PSU
Promialtech Push Pull
AKASA Omega case
DVD RW

So, what do you think, good deal or not? (assuming everything works etc.)

P.S. Don't worry OcUK, I will still need to buy all the peripherals so you'll still have a decent payday coming soon.

Just added the major bits up and so far at £1400 - without psu, case & cpu cooler.

Seems a good deal.

He says he got all the retail packaging and receipts so I guess I'm worrying unduly. I guess I won't know for sure until he delivers it all on Sunday and I hand over the readies...

*starts biting nails until Sunday*

Sounds good, even if you had to replace the CPU or Mobo you would have saved 200GBP+
shame you didnt get to build it yourself though =[ half the fun.

When he delivers it you should probably fire it up to see if it works and run something like SiSoft Sandra to ensure all is as it should be.

Perhaps I am being unfair but seems like quite a modern PC to be selling off a bit cheap. It may be stolen.

Best not to pay cash.

Prob real... £700 for my mates alienware i7 dual 260 rig. Was brand new bought 2.7k months previously and came with original invoice :D.

Some good deals around atm

I will ask him if it is OK to fire it up when he delivers, hope he isn't too offended, just want to make sure it's all working.

I'm not sure about it being stolen though. Looking at his previous sales, it is mostly PC components so I'm guessing he just upgrades a lot. He says the reason for the sale is that he wants a Mini-ITX set-up. Can't really argue with a +500 100% positive feedback score?

if it offends him, tell him to take a long trip home as your not buying.
i would also agree with the above comment, fire it up and run a stability test.

I agree, I frankly wouldn't be offended in his situation, we're talking a lot of money here.

Oh, and the feedback is pretty useless on there, if theres an issue after the first 30? days / feedback is left, then you can't leave negative feedback. If you leave positive, then complain and whatever, your feedback is retracted, but not changed... don't want to make you worry unduly though, just recognise the flaws in the system

Thats a very nice rig, the seller shouldnt be offended at all if asked to fire up the system when he delivers it to you, someone whos willing to demonstrate the machine working (and with receipts for all components) is the least id expect on a face to face deal, ive bought and sold many parts on the members market here, never had an issue with a part i bought/sold thankfully.

Looks like a good machine.

BUT at £1000 it seems too cheap.Take the others advice and check it over before parting with any cash :D.

Hope it goes alright i will cross my fingers for you ;)
