Price check- discs,pads, sensors and fitting

The missus has been quoted £169 for new front discs,pads and sensors inc fitting for her 325i. Is this a fair price?

She was getting lots of vibration through the steering wheel on braking at high speeds...

Depends where the quote is from and what the parts are. I wouldn't pay an independant £170 to replace my disks and pads as a BMW main dealer will do it, using genuine parts, for £229.

was an independent 'specialist' on an E46- no idea on what make of parts.

As Fox says, depends on the quality of the parts - I don't know about the BMW specifically but it doesnt sound extortionate - I was once quoted nearly £300 for the same job on my Mondeo! That would have been a rip off

Ask for a breakdown of the parts and labour cost, I normally do - helps you find out how expensive it is as you can find the parts price online

Thanks guys. We are both car repair virgins. I've had a company car all my life, which goes back in a few months and I think we are going to share the 325. The guy could have said it is £300 and neither of us would have had a clue...

It's part of the new BMW Value Service range of national fixed prices. on an E46, front discs and pads are £229 and rear discs and pads are £199.

For the sake of fifty quid it's probably worth going OEM route then I guess.

The various responses here quote prices for replacing "disks and pads". The OP also referred to "sensors" - have you allowed for these and/or are these parts likely to be significantly more expensive to supply than possibly "generic" disks and pads?

I ask because I believe that I will need to get the front disks and pads replaced before my next MOT.

Would that not just be the pad wear sensors - part of the pad themselves?

Sensors are just 2 short wires that come out of the pad. It increases the cost of the pad by a few pounds. Generic pads can be obtained with these too.

BMW will replace these as well - they are inexpensive bits of metal which complete a circuit when the pad wears low to illuminate a light on the dash.
