**The Dragon Age Origins Thread **

Is everyone getting this from steam? I can get discount on it from where my girlfriend works but if the steam version is more worthwhile (for the items) I may just pay full price. Although, i must admit, I really love breaking open the cellophane on a fresh brand new game and getting that fresh new game smell, maybe I'm wierd.

So even though the UK doesnt have access to the US download I would be able to download it? lol

Not on Steam. Your friend will get a Region error.

Check the Steam forums for information on gifting outside region.

Edit:
And yes, i will be buying from Steam. Their price is, for once, competitive (if you ignore the 15% off discount people have for EA), and the Wicked something ring with crit is extremely nice.

Also cuts out any worry of DRM (if it's there). There's something strangely satisfying about downloading from Steam. Click, and in 10 minutes, play.

Its actually 25% discount. Giving you all the DLC, the game and all the loots (apart from Steam exclusive - Im not sure if Stream gets all the loots from the EA version)

You get all that for £29.99.

EDIT : Looking at the Steam version it doesnt look like you get half the loot you get from EA.
EDIT 2 : The only difference with EA is that you get the Fire ring and not the crit ring... oh and the £10 price difference.

Hi guys, there's a lot of info here and I don't really have the time to read it all, can someone answer the following:

1) What kind of game is this most like?
2) Is it single player? co-op? MMO? can be played multiplayer?
3) Are there any demo versions out/coming out soon?

Cheers :)

I'll still be buying from Steam ;)

*Brainaches*

Can anyone point me to, or list me what is available from where (obviously without mentioning the shop that has the CE exclusive).

Also, as I haven't bought a modern PC game for some time, how do preorder codes work these days? Back in the days of BG2 the pre-order exclusive shops ended up online for download on most fan sites, though of course this is of questionable legality.

Very much looking forward to this game. BG2 still sits up there as my picture of the perfect traditional RPG, will be interesting to see if this can knock it off!

Right I've had a quick look for myself, does this seem to be an accurate summary? (Hopefully this formats okay on everyone's screens!)

Code:
Shop CE	EA UK	Steam UK
Stone Prisioner	X	X	X
Warden's Keep	O	X	X
Memory Band	X	X	X
Blood Dragon	X	X	X
Bergens X	O	O
Grimoire	X	O	O
Final Reason	X	O	O
Wicked Oath	O	O	X
Band of Fire	O	X	O

Every new purchase of DAO gets the Stone prisoner DLC and the Blood Dragon Armour included for free. [source]

The only other major extra is the Warden's Keep DLC, which only comes with the Digital Deluxe Edition, either from EA Store or Steam, but will be available to buy seperately on release day. The rest is extra item fluff.

I'm a cheapass gamer so wherever is cheapest, a lot of online shops are selling for £24.99 but I have loyalty points to use to get some money knocked off from the game store I'm buying from. I hope the story I linked is accurate because the shop I'm buying from doesn't list any extra's in the item description :)

Anyone run down what Bergen's/Grimoire/Final Reason are? NHS filters block all info sites.

It looks like your better off getting steam uk version than the shop CE. Its the same price but a few item differences but you get the wardens keep at no extra cost.
Edit: im seriously thinking of cancelling my shop CE order and getting the steam deluxe edition, i shall ponder it over my sunday dinner.

Bergen's Honour
When the Grey Warden Bergen knew he was at the end of his life, he descended into the the Deep Roads joined by a full company of the Legion of the Dead. They slew hordes of darkspawn, clearing tunnels that had been lost for centuries. When at last they fell, a lone dwarf brought back Bergen's helm, as well as his defiant and inspirational tale.

Placement: This is a massive dragonbone helmet. So it's end-game warrior fare. At a good price. Besides Corruption at the end of the game, it should be the best helm available.

Stats: Adds +2 to armour. Adds a lot to physical resistance (+25). Adds to attack (+6).

Final Reason
This staff was held by several senior master conjurers of the Circle Tower, passed down from old master to new. Errant students learned to fear it, for when all other forms of discipline failed, the Final Reason would produce obedience at the cost of significant pain and discomfort.
Placement: This is meant to be useable once the player is at 11+ level. It's price, like all the pre-order items, should be very reasonable. It's meant to be the best staff for the mid-levels of the game.

Stats: Adds to damage. Making it do as much as the Dragonbone staves. Adds considerably to spellpower. Adds a good chunk to fire damage.

Grimoire of the Frozen Wastes
Far north of Orthland lies the Frozen Wastes. In these pages are hundreds of harrowing tales describing how the barbarians survive in their icy homeland. The authors' hope their stories will help readers in their times of need. Or at the least prove entertaining.

Stats: When read adds +3 to a player's attributes.

Before the items where nurfed, Steam was clearly the way to go.
