Hello everyone,

I bought my Titan Vulcan from OCUK back in February ish (2009) and I am looking to upgrade my PC before the new year! Windows 7 arrives in a couple of days so I'd like to treat myself a little. :)

Couldn't find my exact computer spec from OCUK but I'll list what I managed to find out!

- AMD Phenom II X3 Tri Core 720 2.8GHz @ 3.5GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail
- Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
- Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 10666C9 1333MHz TwinX Dual Channel (TW3X4G1333C9) [TW3X4G1333C9]
- XFX ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDM (PCIExpress)
- Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (ST3500418AS)
- Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD103SJ) [HD103SJ]
- Pioneer DVR-216DBK 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter
- OCZ ModXStream Pro 500w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Modular Power Supply
- Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro PWM CPU Cooler

I currently only play WOW/Aion and I work with a lot of spreadsheets.

Note that with my UI setup with WOW, I get only about 25FPS in raids. But i'm not just upgrading it for WOW but generally just to give my FPS's in games a boost and to make my computer go faster!

Budget comes to about £200-£250 for an upgrade. Would love to see what you guys would suggest!

Thanks again!
Sam

Kennysevenfold - Sorry buddy i'm a bit noobish with that. Whats a WD drive? I'm guessing its a hard drive. I dont think i would invest in another hard drive at this point buddy. Still have plenty of space per se at the moment.

Dota - I did think of gettin another 2443BW sAMSUNG. Still debating about that.

My friends over dinner earlier suggested another 4870 1024MB. Any thoughts on that? I'm guessing I would need to buy another PSU though?

Cheers,
Sam

...

WD being Western Digital a drive manufacturer. Raid 0 is basically using two disks that would be seen as one disk to the system, and information is spread over the both of them and gives performance improvement.

Mmm. Got a link mate? would be good to know how much that would cost.

Just considering another Graphic Card. Maybe a second 4870 but support tech team from OCUK has said that I would definately need another PSU.

Would bring the expenditure up to £200.00. Any other suggestions guys?

Are you sure it's not your internet connection thats limiting you in WOW? Because from your specs, you should be able to destroy that game

WoW gets horrible fps in raids no matter what graphics card/cpu/memory you have. I would consider 25 to be very good for a 25 man. Also it dosn't scale with SLI at all from my experiance.

Sell the 4870 and buy a 5870.

if you wanna throw away your whole budget on one upgrade get a 5850
it is a good upgrade from the 4870
(you might wanna check if your PSU will handle a 5850)

Temi - 20MB Fibre Virgin line buddy and my latency is very good in WOW.

Exsurgo - I heard crossfire doesn't work either and WOW is quite CPU dependant per se. Could be wrong though

Richdog and Didaco - So you reckon the biggest upgrade I can have is to upgrade the graphic card straight up.
hmm..

Is there a big difference between 5850 and 5870?

I'm pretty sure i would need to upgrade my PSU to 750W if i were to get an upgrade on my graphic card.

Well the graphic card sounds like a good option at the moment.

How about Ram? woulod 8GB improve my performance a lot in W7?

A GPU upgrade would provide a big kick to graphics horsepowerWe are happy to advise on any quesitons you have, but please be polite and Google info and benchmarks where you can, rather than relying on us do the work for you. It's better in the long run for you to research specific things like that yourself so as to understand our suggestions better :)

Not at all, the 5800 series are similar to th 4800 series. :)

Nah, 4GB-6GB is more than enough.
