£98 more for i5 - worth it?

to be honest no matter what you use it for the i5 will bring much more performance plus its generally newer kit so id say its worth the 90 quid

Otherwise the i5.

If money is an issue get e8400, if not i5 all the way. It is really worth the £98 notes.

For £98 you're getting a PC thats faster, can multi-task better, and will have a much longer supported life as all the parts are new. I've been faced with the same thing, keep my Q6600 and buy a dualcore for my current PC, or buy an i5 and everything else that entails, and add an extra £100 to my price. I chose the i5 for the above reasons

You have to take the dive into the i5 mate. For such little extra its a mammoth upgrade that will last a lot longer for you.
You will be on the newest platform , costing you less in the future upgrades. If you really can stretch the budget then you should with out any doubt choose i5 system.

I nearly went for a Q8400 powered system, really really glad I didn't now! Having DDR3 and the latest AMD processor was definately worth it.

I'd go for a Asus motherboard to be honest, apparantly they're better for overclocking than Geforce ones, and I can't fault mine at all, my Phenom II 965 BE is overclocked to 3.8ghz now, and it's totally stable, which makes me happy!

So personally, I'd go for Phenom II 965 BE if I were you, from what I've read they're similar in performance to the i5s, but they're called "Black Edition".

But then again, from what I've read the i5 is easier to reach 4ghz with. Anything over about 3.8ghz and the Phenom II 965 needs a massive voltage, mines already at the general consensus for the max safe voltage, (1.55v), and I can't get it over 3.8ghz at all.

I tried upping the frequency 5mhz, but it wasn't having any of it.
