5870 , 120hz + Monitor Scaling

Hi , i've got a 5870 and i play css with my monitor listed below.

When playing css i use a 1024x768 resolution so i monitor scale with the widescreen but then this fixes my hz at 60hz , one of my mates has got it working at 120hz but with a nvidia and i have had a good look around catalyst and really cant find anything.

Also a seperate issue is that randomly my screen that i have maximized will go fuzzy and start to artifact with split lines everywhere. I did install this ATI after using a nvidia but im pretty positive i removed and installed all the drivers correctly as i've done it again since , the temperature is running fine and i dont think its a problem with my 550W psu (even tho its a little close) as under full load during Aion/css/hon aslong with download/streaming at the same time it has no problem. The bug always seems to occur during streaming of videos like family guy, any help appreciated .

Why would you want to run at such a low res?

You're not one of those "gamers" who lowers the res and turns the contrast right up are you? *cringe*

well i play css at quite a high level , its quite important i keep my settings the same and no i dont turn up digital vibrance anymore due to CCC not having that option

, no need for it on a decent monitor anyway .

Why do you need to keep the res the same? Is it fov or something? These can easily be re-calculated. And your gfx card is easily able to pump out 120fps so you don't need to worry about that.

1024 must look so ugly lol.

But anyway, I read there is a way to force 120hz on the monitor in all resolutions, not sure if it was a driver hack though.

Oh and regarding the other problem, I sometimes get that bug when switching to a different resolution or changing the refresh rate. The colours all corrupt and I have multiple coloured bars running horizontally.
I fix it by doing it again, i.e. either restarting the app which switched the resolution or changing the refresh rate back and forth.
It's odd for sure.

Heaven forbid some people play games for reasons other than the shiny graphics.

You seem to play the victim a lot on this forum, but maybe you just need to stop posting flame bait.

Ohh yeh im not worried about hitting 120fps rofl i can hit 800fps no problem, 1024x768 and 800x600 are the resolutions i play at (basically aspect ratio 4:3) so i need to monitor scale so that the image is not stretched (btw i dont know what fov means). Trust me if you think 1024 looks ugly play on 800x600 with my fps config on then you'll know what ugly is

There is a built-in force option but even this doesnt allow for 120hz when monitor scaling.

Why would you turn the contrast up on the monitor? What benefit does it give?

Counter strike won't stretch your screen, the game automatically uses the correct aspect ratio for your resolution.

There really isn't any reason to use that low resolution, if anything you will be creating a stretched version of the game by forcing 1024x768 onto a monitor with a native res of 1650x1080.

Makes people easier to spot I think, to give people an "edge" basically.

As for why MCH plays at such low res, I don't really know. Maybe it's out of habit?

I don't really understand the usage of such methods to give an edge though, I play for fun with friends and I'm not particularly competitive.

Yes it will stretch the screen , if you use aspect ratio 4:3 on a widescreen monitor it will stretch it which is why i monitor scale . Trust me when it comes to competitive css 800x600 and 1024 are the best resolutions if not the only resolutions to be used but i am not here to argue that.I am here to get a solution for my problem so i'd prefer to stay on that topic.

You most definitely can get aspect ratio scaling in the ATi drivers, as for where, I can't help you at the moment as my drivers need a reinstall. In fact, windows itself needs a re-install.

Yes but why would you use 4:3 when changing to 16:10 will scale perfectly, give you MORE field of view and look infinitely better?

I've had friends rage quit for being shot at while typing, it was quite embarrassing.

Digital vibrance just makes things clearer (especially on CRTs which are used a lot in css) and flashes are said to be different but its mainly out of habbit and a mental thing. Recoil is easier to control at lower resolutions and also it is a mental thing.

These are the settings you require.

With centered timings, your screen won't scale the image across the whole of it, you'll have black bars to the right and left of the game screen if you choose a 4:3 aspect ratio.

It's not about gaming seriously, it's about what you said, it's a mental thing.

I know someone who refused to run Unreal Tournament at anything other than 640x480 16bit colour.

He wasn't used to it being high res and nice colours and moaned about it constantly.

Anyway he later got over it and embraced the niceness of higher res and 32bit colour.

For people who think it makes them "Better" at a game, I don't really get it, I think you're just too distracted with the change rather than it actually alters your ability to play the game.

If you think about it, you would want more FOV as you'll be able to see more to your left and right.

Yet you don't know what FOV means?

I like 'pros' like you in UT99.
They tell me they run with minimum detail, no music, low res, etc.
Yet I still beat them silly.
You guys are the reason I play!

Read up what FOV is and then up your resolution. Have fun!

My 4870 x2 is off to be repaired and im left with a 9600gt having to lower res from 1920x1080 to 1024x720, i hate it looks blurry and ugly, plus lower eye candy, cannot be high res gaming.
