5870 , 120hz + Monitor Scaling

My 4870 x2 is off to be repaired and im left with a 9600gt having to lower res from 1920x1080 to 1024x720, i hate it looks blurry and ugly, plus lower eye candy, cannot be high res gaming.
9600GTs aren't that bad, they've still got enough grunt to run a fair amount of games at decent settings at 1920x1200.

I was running an X1600XT last year, and that was fine for some source based games, maxed out with AA.

A 9600GT is a lot faster than an X1600XT.

How many utterly pointless replies on here? jesus...Kylie, please try to be less irritating ? you come across as so clueless in this area...

Regarding the HZ i had a very similar issue myself btw under windows xp with my 5870. Regardless of the resolution i just couldn't get above 85hz no matter what i tried and obviously 120hz is a LOT nicer for a whole number of reasons on CRT.

Had to distance sellers act it in the end :( gutted.

I wondered if i'd of been fine under vista/win7 but never found out in the end :(

Those two posts were practically the same, yet everyone else is making utterly pointless replies? I don't see you helping much to be honest.

At least I've helped with him getting the aspect ratio correct.

You need to try and understand the concept of an opinion.

It's not wrong just because it's different to your own.

It's not clueless because I think it's stupid, it's called "my opinion" which I'm perfectly entitled to.

Oh, and my name isn't Kylie...

Hi , i've got a 5870 and i play css with my monitor listed below.

When playing css i use a 1024x768 resolution so i monitor scale with the widescreen but then this fixes my hz at 60hz , one of my mates has got it working at 120hz but with a nvidia and i have had a good look around catalyst and really cant find anything.

Also a seperate issue is that randomly my screen that i have maximized will go fuzzy and start to artifact with split lines everywhere. I did install this ATI after using a nvidia but im pretty positive i removed and installed all the drivers correctly as i've done it again since , the temperature is running fine and i dont think its a problem with my 550W psu (even tho its a little close) as under full load during Aion/css/hon aslong with download/streaming at the same time it has no problem. The bug always seems to occur during streaming of videos like family guy, any help appreciated .

Shh! You're not allowed an opinion if it's different to certain people's opinions.

There is a difference between having an opinion and expressing it reasonably, and having an opinion and ramming it down everyone's throat.

Half your posts seem to be daft comments like that one above which serve no purpose other than to annoy people.

Cool story.

Point proven.

I suppose this "Cool story" thing is a defence mechanism for when you are embarrassed by your behaviour? Perhaps your parents should have used the naughty step more.

I'm sure you'll take time out of your busy schedule of.....er......flaming to reply so thanks in advance for the laugh.

Sure it is. ;)

When some one has a moan at me for expressing an opinion, they don't then hold the right to sensible responses.

To get told that I don't have a clue about something, when in actuality, I do have a clue, but my opinion is that it's lame, then why does said person deserve sensible comments back?

According to him, my opinion was invalid as it didn't correspond with his own.

Yeah, and I'm the daft one.

You're doing it too, I didn't ram my opinion down anyone's throat, if I did, I'd be calling everyone who didn't agree with me an idiot because they don't agree.

It's like saying "hey, I like blue" and some one saying "you don't have a clue about colours, otherwise you'd like the same colour as I do, you idiot, I can't believe you like blue" That's the forcing of an opinion.

I think people who take games too seriously are lame, and I think the steps they take to give them an "edge" in the games they play is even more lame, but that's my opinion that I'm allowed to hold, I'm not going around telling everyone who doesn't think it's lame, clueless. It's their opinion that they're funny entitled to. I'm happy to discuss it, but I'm not forcing anything on anyone. It seems to be the only people who actually "game" in such a manor are the ones who aren't able to accept it as an opinion, are you defending your "gaming" habits? You don't need to defend or justify anything you do in your games, but it doesn't mean I'm then unable to give an opinion.

I prefer to just enjoy a game at the best graphical settings that my PC is capable of, I'm not so caught up in being competitive. Playing the game is enough fun for me.

It goes beyond a game for fun when people resort to such measures, in my opinion of course.

Cool story isn't a defence mechanism, notice the way "aln" didn't come back with anything? They obviously wanted a response from me, but how is he supposed to come back with anything?

"cool story" has obviously irritated you though. I'm actually not bothered what you think, but it seems you need educating on how an opinion works.

So, as bad as I supposedly am, where's your constructive contribution to this thread? Or are you doing what you're accusing me of doing?

Take a look at his responses to my posts, calls me daft while responding in a childish manner.

Can you post an in game shot of what your CS looks like please? I'm interested to see how you have it setup.

I'm curious why the OP doesn't just run CSS in 1600 x 1200 if the 4:3 aspect is important to him - still, for the life of me I don't get why you wouldn't want a wider field-of-view..? Surely playing at 4:3 instead of 16:9 is like wearing blinkers

Maybe it's a ninja thing :D

Anyway, no disrespect - if that's the way he games, more power to him - I just find it odd with no tangible benefit...

I call out of habit to be honest.
