hi guy

got new machine today, spec is :

i5 750
gigabyte P22M-UD2
4GB G.SKILL PC12800
Sapphire HD 5850 1GB
OCZ ModXstream Pro 600W
viewsonic VX2260WM 22"

running win7, fully updated with drivers, ATI driver downloaded from ATI site

everytime i launch a game, the screen goes blank (stand by) orange light

farcry 2, half life 2 and ep1,2. also rollercoaster tycoon 3 does that

only one game i can play is trackmania nation forever.

i tried different DVI port on the 5850, make no difference at all :(

what's happening :(

thanks

Did you upgrade from a CRT monitor by any chance? What's it say when you go into the catalyst control center and look at the refresh rate?

no, its brand new build

i installed win7 with this viewsonic monitor. ATI control centre says 60mhz but windows display properties says 59mhz, i changed to 60mhz, made no difference.

try uninstalling the ati drivers and then installing the generic win7 ones in, then try and play a game and see what happens. if you can play at least its narrowed down to drivers.

also try installing the drivers from the cd

thanks for the replies

win7 doesnt install its driver

so far, only 1 game work fine is trackmania nation forever. when launch a game, the sound from the machine as if, it's turn off (sleep or stand by) but lights and fans are still spinning. after a min or 2, the system reset itself.

i tried with VGA cable with with DVI-adaptor but make no difference.

i tried uninstalled ATI driver (from ATI site) then reinstall with driver selected only) same problem.

i'll try the driver from the CD cames with the card bit later.

any more input will be useful

thanks

got a friend who can let you test his monitor on it? seriously I had a 19" viewsonic that wouldnt work on ati dvi connection - was fine with analog/vga converter but no way woudl work with the dvi.
never found an answer but it was just the viewsonic

Hi try doing as above. Is the system powering down or simply the screen going blank? When trackmania works is there any issues at all? Are you sure your running the native resolution of 1680 * 1050?

Yea my GF has a 8600, that doesn't seem to want to work with some DVI monitors..

WIndows 7 will install the drivers, if it doesn't then do it manually, in updates.

I think the native res on these monitors is 1920 x 1080.

hmm, try to update Direct X, grab the dxwebsetup(think thats what its called from memory) from the microsoft website(they have a DX section, normally download the one that says its 20kb-100mb or something, it downloads a tiny DX updater that when opened will check what files it needs and download them for you).

Its possible with win 7 the ati drivers are expecting the latest DX11 update(which was a month or two ago).

good news :p

it's working alright, i used driver from sapphire driver CD

but very small problem, i5/5850 seems struggle to play 1080p WMV from microsoft showcase even the task manager says cpu is only used at less than 5%

thanks

People always get problems with ATI but never have i read a problem with GTX cards :P

Im not a fanboi of NV or anything, im actualy buying an ATI 5870 soon, just saying that people always have problems with ati how comes?

People on here will defend ATI/AMD till the bitter end but in my experience ATI Cards have always suffered with poor drivers.
