Laptop just been robbed

My laptop was taken by a burglar a few hours ago, I've already talked to the police etc. and there doesn't seem to be much chance of me getting it back :(

I was thinking that if the burglar were to go on my laptop and click on my OCUK bookmark, since it signs in automatically would there be any way to trace where they access it from? I expect the answer is no but I thought I'd ask just in case..

If they did what you suggested, then there's some chance it could be traced (it's been done before, but not sure if that was here or somewhere else), but more likely its already been sold on.
 
Well even if it has been sold on.. what if the buyer doesnt have the sense to format it, and snoops around his stuff.

Say the forums were accessed, I'm sure the dons or Spie could view log details for your account.

Maybe get an alternative account for now, and keep checking up on the 'Last activity' bit on the profile, see if it gets logged into?
 
I was in the living room for a couple of hours with my bedroom door unlocked, and unfortunately the front door was unlocked as well (student house, people going in and out), so someone must have just walked in unseen and unheard and just taken it. I feel like an idiot now, but there you go lesson learned the hard way.

The worst thing is that they took nothing else from my room, just the laptop and charger! Would have been less bothered if it was anything else. Still got the battery though, so can get maybe £30 for that.

Yes, they can - I have past experience. However, that's a lot of assumptions, and you didn't list them all.

mate its gone, forget ye hope and move on with things.

hope you have learned a valuable lesson here, which should secure your new laptop for a longer time than this one.
 
Just hope your contents insurance had that "brand new macbook pro" covered *wink wink*
