Hot hatch contenders for 5k

this one has it

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1287026.htm

but is £250 over budget, before you correct the "unfortunate" standard alloys and paint colour :D

Thats at least £1200 overpriced.

Ring up some of the MX5 specialists and they will be able to help.

5speed
OnlyMX5ives
Performance5

These people see mx5s all day every day and will know a good one and know if it's up for sale etc.

Honda Integra Type R.

Theres no a huge amount of things to go wrong and it sorted from the factory with reliability a default option on the spec list.

You only have to sit in one to realise how much of an event driving pushing one it, you can reach down and touch the ground from the drivers seat.

To fit the bill its also a hatchback.

that's me in the thread, i meant to get back to him, whoops :p

I'll see what theses specialists say to that idea :p

specialists are usually a lot more sympathetic to radical mods once you've earned 1 years NCB with the car.

I got insured with chris knott. They're almost as picky as greenlight. You have to be over 25 for VXRs and you have to have driven the car for a year or another car of similar type / power.

I fulfilled all of those criteria this year, and got a quote that was about £300 cheaper than anybody else ... including adrian flux and bell.

Rareness factor doesn't make the 4door worth that much. It's slower than the coupe so I can't think why you'd want one unless you needed 4 doors.

For that price they all seem to need some arch love, 3rd gear syncro and some rear wheel bearings :(

I'd love to get one but Fox said it'll be a nail and I'll have to spend a fotune fixing it, then I'll wrap it round a tree. :(

what?

sod the MX5, you know its DC2 time.

you said your insurance would be 600-700 on one? thats a good price.

5k can see a nice one, think most have been snapped up for that on itr-dc2 atm but others will come along shortly no doubt.

and tbh Fox isn't really the one to be talking about when it comes to DC2s is he...

172/EP3 main alternatives. don't think nice EP3s have fallen past 6-7k mark yet though... you'll see a lovely 172 for that money though.

I didn't actually say it'd be a nail. I said that he needs to be careful as he'll be buying quite an old car and that will come with some of the caveats of.... buying an old car.

buy a pre facelift type R, incase I missed it did you get an insurance qoute for the type r. As that cupra price is steeep

£5000 would get you a very nice 96 spec Jap import DC2 or a 98 onwards UK car with the bigger brakes 5 stud wheels with the different front end.

They are prone to rust around the rear arches and the syncros between 2nd and 3rd and 4th and 5th can go because the cars tend to have a hard life but apart from those 2 things there is not a lot to worry about.

Lots of info on the DC2 forum and a good for sale section:

Somebody needs a Civic Type-R

Pretty sure you mean the EP3 CTR but I might aswell recommend an EK9 CTR if we're talking about Type-R's:p Handling/performance/economy wise they are very similar. You have to drive them harder than an ITR or EP3 CTR though due to the higher VTEC changeover and lack of torque.. fun though!

DC2 drivers say it's more of a go kart than the DC2. Unfortunatly only one near by and it looks a bit dodgey: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/700956.htm

Audi S3 Quattro :p

Yeah I'd get a Toledo and save 4k :p
