Dell S2409W - 1080i or 1080p?

I know it's 1920x1080

both 1080i and 1080p are 1920x1080 resolution...

however the TRUE FULL HD is 1080p not 1080i...

so again... anyone knows if it's 1080i or 1080p?

As others have said it's native resolution is 1920 x 1080 which is also know as 1080p. The progressive/interlaced (p/i) tag on TV's is a little confusing to people. I with they would just quote the panels native resolution.

From Wiki: 1080i is generally used in place of 1440x1080, at a framerate of 29.97 (30000/1001), while 1080p is usually used in place of 1920x1080 (full HD), at a framerate of 23.976 fps (24000/1001).

Thanks guys... so a quick question which one would you get:

Dell S2409W or Samsung SM2443BW?
Both are TN panels but the samsung is 1920x1200 so better resolution wise.

I use it for programming, photoshop and some gaming.

Thanks

If you ever want to stick a console in get the Dell as the Samsung would strech the image unless it had a feature called 1:1 pixel mapping (which I think it lacks).

Otherwise I would still rate Dell panels above Samsung ones anyday.

Resolution wise I have a panel @ 1080p and another at 1900x1200 and both are perfectly usable for office work and gaming.
The 1900x1200 is supposed to be closer to the golden ratio and therefore easier on the eyes (apparently), but I think I prefer the 1080p aspect ratio a little more.

At the end of the day that Dell panel is the dogs considering the price. :)

Thanks mate...

What's the difference between them apart from the resolution?

What's the difference between them apart from the resolution?

The difference between my two panels is noticeable- the 16:10 monitor is a S-PVA monitor, whereas the 16:9 is a TN panel.

Typically S-PVA panels have better viewing angle and blacks, but cost a hell of a lot more.

Considering all the bad things I had heard about TN panels I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the S2409W.

sorry to burst your bubble but chances are the dell S2409W is disappearing for good
dell told me its discontinued and ocuk told me they are trying their hardest to get it back in stock but chances are they wont manage
i know this and am sure of it as i also wanted to buy this monitor

I'm thinking of going for the samsung actually...

It has better resolution and I don't need HDMI as my ps3 is already on my 32" samsung lcd tv and so far samsung has been great.

My laptop is Dell and I have had problems with it's monitor... although the dell monitors seem to get good reviews

Hi

I've been looking for quite some time, like you I would prefer 1920x1200 as it will be purely a gaming monitor...

After reading far too many reviews, I came to the same conclusion. The Samsung SM2443BW

Never seen a bad review of this monitor, just have a Google it seems very well liked.

It's also seems to be very competitively priced especially for a change in the UK.

Take a look at: http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/.../LS24MYKABC/EDC/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail

It has "image size function" so images are never stretched.
