Even on consoles, dedicated servers are better.

-Better uptime
-Lower latencies
-Better performance (32 player games use megabits of bandwidth that some people don't have)
-Customization
-Communities

Ideally they'd allow dedi servers for both PC and console. Microsoft is encouraging game makers to allow dedicated servers for consoles and PCs through Games for Windows. Valve likes matchmaking (L4D) but uses a hybrid with dedi servers.

I agree with what you are saying Viper. I also hear TriedandTested's point as well, matchmaking does make things a fair bit easier, but why not have both? And/or have the matchmaking then take you to a dedicated server, much like Valve's Left 4 Dead system. When it works, Valve's system works brillliantly for Left 4 Dead, when it doesn't it fails miserably. Still, the idea is good and is more what IW should have done to keep gameplay experience for all better.

Thing is, there is now zero reason to buy this on PC. They've completely nerfed it, and I have changed my pre-order to my 360.

I'm not too bothered considering I can trade a 360 game back in.. but these are rather underhand tactics to force the market.

Thats the spirit do exactly what THEY want you to do.
Don't confuse my mind! I've got a best mate who will get it on 360. Mates with it on PS3. And the OcUK community that's equally good on PC and 360.

I can't be arsed fighting the system.. but you be my guest.

Other than FPS' being an absolute turd to play on a console!

The fact you took the time to write that out makes me think you believe it. But I play FPS across consoles and PC.. so I think I'm having the better gaming experience.

No, he has a point.
The XBox does not have a kb or mouse, it has worse graphics, smaller player numbers per server ....

playing fps on console basically impossible for me and i guess for others to as u end up looking up and running like tard. aiming is even worse

keyboard+mice the way fps is played

Surely as many people pirate for the 360 as they do PC. The torrent seeds for PC and xbox look the same to me.

I aint buying MW2 now, bought L4D2 from trusty Valve. Going to give Borderlands a look instead of MW2.

Is there a demo for borderlands?

No demo for borderlands yet as far as I know...

As far as Xbox pirates go, of course they exist. Plenty of modded consoles out there but game developers make more money from consoles for less effort so they are looking for excuses...

Well this sucks. I was really looking forward to MW2 :(

I hate matchmaking on consoles, it's the sole reason I never play my PS3 games online.

Epic fail on IWs part in my opinion!

Signed the petition yesterday (signature 63k or something along those lines). Seems stupid to effectively ban those with flakey internet connections from playing LAN, or those with a large LAN party going to have to bog down a single connection for a server on loan.

Dedicated server: yes, wouldn't be a problem.
Hybrid: probably the ideal.
Matchmaking only: No.

I think I'm with gord on this now, I was going to get this on PC but now there is no benefit plus all of my "real world" friends will be getting this on the 360 so I guess that's what I'll be getting it on.

I won't be playing uber-competitively so the "pad" issue is a mute point for me seen as everyone else on the platform is using one, while kb + mouse is more accurate I won't have a disadvantage. Sure, graphics won't be as good, that goes without saying but I think I can live with that. Bad times for decent PC games though :(

there still is a benefit to playing this game on the PC over the console ie better gfx and better control. I think people assume there wont be any players online with the PC but we all know there will still be thousands.. I think its safe to say a lot who have signed the petition will renege and buy it on release.. ofc it depends on the friends situation so i can understand the console format for that.

'Bad times for decent PC games' ?? Aion, Dawn of War II (free DLC), Tales of Valor CoH, Anno 1404, Arma II ,Hearts of Iron III, Demigod etc etc all amazing games in their own right (to name but a few) with mass longevity and multiplayer mayhem. Lets not forget the PC also has forthcomming games like FM 2010, Dragons Age Origins, Left4Dead2, Borderlands, Painkiller Resurrection !!! none of that is 'churn' ;)

I know there are some good games coming out, I'll be getting Dragon Age, L4D 2 and FM 2010 without a doubt but I just feel really disappointed at the whole platform at the moment, maybe those titles will change things :)
