Threaded sms isnt available yet...rumours are that the next big OS update will have it ie OS 5.

You can buy apps that will give you the option but tbh they are a waste of money...just wait for RIM to release it within their OS update.

Must have been an app I saw, is there any word on when v5 is coming? Seen betas but heard nothing but bad press from them

Hopefully end of the yr...ive heard AT&T in America is currently testing a version of the OS 5 but no one really knows when it will be out.

Saying that the new BB's that are out later this yr will have OS 5 running on them ie the 9700 Onyx and the Storm 2.

I had a version of OS 5 running on my Bold but the problem was that a lot of my apps didnt work with it so took it off but its much much better than 4.6 or 4.7 OS's.

hey spawn, you heard anything about the OS 5 dates as yet mate?

Nope nothing yet...nothing has been mentioned on CB either other than leaks.

Saying that i was with one guy that i know pretty well last night having a few drinks in the city...he works for Vodafone network operations and is pretty high up...he also deals with a lot of BB related stuff...thanks to his position hes got hold of a Storm2 for me...should have it by Monday latest so i get it a few days earlier than the rest as it launches 26th of this mth...also got it for a pretty good price..unlocked as well.

Anyhow speaking to him he said he reckons OS5 will probably drop around early Dec after both the Storm2 and 9700 Onyx aka Bold2 have been released...most probably after the 9700 as both run on OS5 now but could be earlier but he said he hasnt heard a single thing. He was running a 9700 Onyx and geez that thing is a work of art so have got him to order me one as well...so far this mth has been a very expensive month for me having bought 2 phones:p ie Storm2 and 9700 both unlocked.

He did say that if your looking to install OS5..then install .238 as that seems to be the best build out of all of them but personally im waiting for it to officially drop before i stick it on my Bold. Wont have to worry as the Storm2 and 9700 will have OS5 running on it anyways.

Id just keep an eye on crackberry as they seem to have the latest info regarding OS's etc.

Best app for changing led colours is Berrybuzz...you can set various colours for notifications and also has the vibrate and ring function within it...i use it on both my Bolds and its superb...only $5 or something like that...u can get it from crackberry app store or the RIM app store.

OS5 has it and many other great things if you head over to Crackberry.

I'm on v5.0.0.238 and it works fine, has the vibrate/ring in menus now along with other things.

This is the new bubble sms that comes on OS5.

You can get v5.0.0.238 now at Crackberry unofficially as Spawn has already mentioned.

So I'm thinking of going for the 8900, but a few things worry me (greatly). The first is no 3G. Does anyone have an app that can test the average speed of gprs on a BB? I hate lagging speed when I'm browsing and I would love to make the comparison to the 3G I have now. The second is the screen. How much of a bugger is it viewing web pages without a huge screen?

Thanks to anyone who has time to chek with their BB. :P

Nothing as of yet...rumours are that there may be a 3G curve on the horizon but nothing concrete.

No it isnt...9700 is part of the Bold lineup and has 3G plus a hefty price tag...plus the keys are very much bold like but smaller. I played with one earlier today...it was a dev unit from my contact in Voda and its a very nice phone..small but very nice.

3g is much much faster that GPRS...if you cant do without the 3G then i suggest you either get the Bold, which isnt so expensive now that the 9700 is out or have a look at the new Storm2 which is out end of this month...its the new touchscreen so therefore has a bigger screen to boot. Alternatively you could just go for the 9700 which is the new Bold but the screen and the size of it is smaller than the Bold itself. The Bold, which i have is a great device...i absolutely love mine but sadly i will be relegating it to backup duties once i have my Storm2 and 9700 next week.

Apologies, didn't read properly! I thought he just meant the 9700 as it incorporates the benefits of both devices into one.

No probs..didnt mean to jump down your throat:p...size wise it isnt that much bigger than the curve so you could say its curve sized...well i thought so but like i said the keyboard is very Bold like...my contact from Voda also had a pair of 9630's aka Tours that hes been playing around with...both Sprint models and CDMA plus GSM so they work over here but he said they arent very good. Again nice phones but the 9700 knocks the socks off them.

Btw 9700 is now up for pre-order on the Vodafone website £35 pm on a 18 mth contract.....shipping out on the 26th of this month..same day as the Storm2.

@ Spawn, wan't to exchange pins? Could do with a BB addict on BBM.

Yeh why not...just head over to CB and look for Spawn12...thats me and scan my barcode if your running BBM5...if not send me a PM through CB and ill give you my PIN.

worth waiting for your contract to expire and then haggle, i'm paying £25 per month on O2 for my blackberry 8900, 1000 texts, 600 mins + unlimited BB download and free home broadband for 12 months.

i will have a look myself, but how easy is it to put on OS5? is it straight forward?
