Whole house power consumption

My freezer has an A rating that works out at a cost of running it at £30 a year according the the info you get, so it's definitely not running at 150w or 1.5KW.

I don't get what you mean by is my monitor on the plug for my PC or the whole house because if you have one yourself you know that it transmits from the meter

think he means one of these like I've got..

I honestly dread to think. I am not looking forward to my bill.

My brother is 24 and sleeps with his bedroom light on

combined with a large number of outside lights that always end up on all the time.

what spec is yours mate? think it's similar to mine, I'll whack in my meter tonight and tell you how much it uses idle, and ingame..

q6600
gtx260
1 hdd..

Q9550 @ 1.35v (3.7ghz)
GTX260 (oc)
2x HDD
9x USB
120mm + 140mm fans
audio amp

I think the living room will pwn the consumption though, sky box, digi cable box, freesat hd box, dvd recorder, tivo..... all on standby at night!

Also 2 fridges :O

All our lights are energy saving though which is good I suppose and most of the electrical devices are newish so are energy efficient in one way or another. Only I have a desktop PC in the household, everyone else has their own laptop.

Will be interesting to see though!

My free energy monitors are on their way to my 73yr old ass!

There are two different types, but you've said it's a home energy monitor.

It's just unusual to have such little usage. An LCD monitor should use more than 30W by itself.

An LCD monitor won't use any more than a couple of watts

A 60w bulb needs to be on for 16 hours to consume 1kWh.

I pay about 14p per kWh. A 60w bulb on 24/7 for a year uses roughly 548kWh, or £76!

That said, if same bulb is used for 2 hours a day, that's roughly 14p a week, or £7.30 a year.

Here's mine right now, ignore the time, the unit has been set with the current cost of electricity so it shows exactly how much it costs to run per month based on 13.6p per unit,

^^ I'm still finding that hard to believe. What samsung monitor do you have and how much does you electricity bill cost per month?

you sure your not picking up next doors signal, you know the 80 year olds that are still stuck in the 60's and only listen to radio 4..

When I got mine I went around the house switching off sockets to se what draws what... hifi and tv on stand by was 40 watt and up stairs tv was the same , computer was 30, but it all adds up, get a pen and paper and write it down ,

I even underclocker the d/l and media server to 1.1ghz and removed hd's and memory went from 100 to 60 watts, a little saving over a long time is good money saved,
for info , my house idles at around 250 watt in the day and 130 at night , largeish 4 bed detached , two adults and three kids one being a teenager(almost)
almst all bulbs are energy ones bar the front roon which are 2x150 wat dimmable halogen my only extravagance.

bullit

Mine is reading 0.161kW but that can't be right in relation to everyone elses.

I loved it when we first installed it. Going round and switching stuff on and off to see how much energy it uses. Also, at night we look at it to make sure everything is switched off.
