Hey Cell,

That Motherboard/Processor combination won't work.

Either look to change to an Intel Core i7 920 or change the mobo to a P55.

If you go for the P55 mobo route it'll be worth changing your memory for a dual kit.

Would prob change the GPU as well. What will you be using the PC for?

Unfortunately, that spec won't work and I wouldn't recommend most of the parts you chose.

The i7 860 needs to be used in a P55 board. The X58 you chose only works with i7 900 series CPUs.

I would also recommend against the Dominator RAM, its very expensive and the performance difference if you used this stuff would be tiny.

I would be happy to spec you up a full system if you provide me your: budget, planned usage, any requests.

you would probably benefit from having a read of this thread, I'm sure people will quickly knock you up some specs suitable to your needs but this will help you understand a bit better

Indeed.

The specs listed a) don't work, b) are poorly balanced, and c) some are very weak. I'd stretch for a better monitor, the graphics card is weak for gaming and the processor is overpowered in comparison, while your RAM is complete overkill. I'd suggest listing your budget, requirements and aims and letting someone else spec out your computer for you.

does this one look any better?

Samsung PB22-J 128GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive (MMCRE28G5MXP-0VB)
Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail + Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Game
Asus Maximus III Formula Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard
Hyundai H245W 23.6" Widescreen LCD Monitor
Asus ATI Radeon HD 4890 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Akasa AK-P085FG-BK 850W PowerMax Power Supply
Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel (TR3X6G1600C9)
Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 CPU Cooler (Socket LGA1366)
Akasa Rev.4 Zen Case - Black (No PSU)
LG GH22NS40 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM

thanks very much!

Here is my idea:

That doesn't include a storage HDD or Operating System. If these are also needed to be added, I would recommend this and this.

Edit:
does this one look any better?

No, unfortunately this also doesn't work. The i7 920 is a socket 1366 chip which needs an X58 board to work.

Too sumarise:

P55 : i5 750, i7 800 series (uses dual channel memory)
X58 : i7 900 series (uses triple channel memory)

Hope that helps.

i7 CPUs using the LGA1366 socket have to be used with a motherboard with the LGA1366 socket using the X58 chipset (triple channel DDR3).
i5 + i7 CPUs using the LGA1156 socket have to be used with a motherboard with the LGA1156 socket using the P55 chipset (dual channel DDR3).

cmndr_andi's suggestion is a solid one.

I have windows 7 here waiting! and I qould require a storage harddrive for my files, music etc

is the water cooler easy to fit, ive never actually fitted on before!

is there anything else that could make the as future proof as possible?

Thanks very much

Cool, then definitely have a look at the Samsung F3 1TB drive I liked to above. It is very fast and comes at a great price

The water cooler is fully sealed and not too difficult to fit. Here is a review where it shows how they installed it. Certainly nothing to be worried about.

There are a few things that you could add to make it last a bit longer. But most of these upgrades are best performed when the need arises, not when you first build it, these include:

Blu-Ray Rewriter: This could come in handy if you are encoding HD films and want to burn them to blu-rays. These are very expensive drives (as are the disks) so I wouldn't suggest getting one now.

A bigger case: The CM 690 I specified is a good case and will happily hold everything I specified. However, If you want more room to work and more options for future upgrades a full tower case may be worth a look. If you want to do this upgrade, I suggest doing it now as moving all your components is a pain, and you will spend more in total if you buy later).

Get a second 5850: A single 5850 will run almost all games better than you need, so adding a second is not required at the moment. However, if in the future you feel the need for better framerates in games - simply adding a second 5850 will give you a nice jump in framerates. The Corsair 650W PSU will be able to handle a second 5850.

Edit:
is the xfx graphics card actually in stock when you looked when im looking its showing as pre-order?

Pretty much all 5800 series cards are out of stock at the moment. Given their excellent performance and the launch of DX11 Windows 7, I believe the demand for these cards has been insane. The VTX 5850 is currently in stock, but I would suggest waiting for either the XFX or ASUS versions to come in stock due to their superior warranties.

do you think i require any additional cables or are they all provided with everything?

thanks again!

Looks good. All the cables you will need should come with the PSU and motherboard. However, I would suggest getting this cable, as every case with a bottom-mounted PSU I have worked in has had trouble connecting the 12V ATX cable while doing it tidily.

thats great thanks! with the motherboards being overclocked already and a new firmware is released is this okay to update still?

If a new BIOS revision is released and you update the motherboard BIOS with it, the new BIOS will be set to default (ie. not overclocked). In this situation, you should go into the BIOS before updating it, and make a note of all the overclock settings. When these are recorded, update the BIOS and put the settings back in again.

the overclocked bundles mention adding more memory will reduce speed, if i wanted to add more memory in the future how would i go about this properly?

Thanks
