omg...... if this happend it would be the biggest news ever!! lol

Mariners could be set to make football history by employing the first female manager of a Football League side, reports the Lincolnshire Echo.

Powell masterminded the England women's team's journey the final of the European Championships this summer, which ended - predictably - in defeat to Germany.

The ultimate insult for that promising manager of yesteryear Mike Newell who famously had lots to say about female referee's didn't he :) lol

Be interesting to see. I guess if she has done the same coaching qualifications etc as her male counterparts then I see no reason she shouldn't be given a go.

I personally don't like the woman comentator on MOTD but a female manager is different ;) lol

It's gotta be BS I mean who the hell she know in terms of contacts on the football side? she going to sign loads of international women, hell brings a new dimension to the quoted word of Ruud Gullit "Sexy Football" hahaha.

Well, Wenger couldn't motivate his players with "one more goal and I'll flash you" (well I hope not).

Maybe it could work ;)

not really sure what "contacts" are required to be a manager either. I hardly think a message passed to Fergie saying "I want Nani for 50k" carries any more or less worth based on how well Fergie knows the person offering.

Likewise the most important people she'll need to know, are the players, who probably as a manager she'll be able to meet. Contacts can help, like Wenger recommended Palacios to Bruce, but its not necessary and I think there are probably fairly few managers who go around telling their rivals whose a great buy.

what? as opposed to a load of old thicko ex footballers who get into management through their name as opposed to tactical prowess or man management skills?

He said contacts. Ex-pro players have decent contacts.

Not sure about sexy though. She's like a lesbian version of scary spice.

First it was a woman commentator for a football match, and that just felt wrong, and now this! Women are going to take over football as we know it!!!

Seriously though, it should be interesting to see how she does managing the club.

Unlike commentators (just...wrong) or Caroline Cheese (idiot, and wrong) this I suppose is worth an effort. But they'd have lots of hurdles to get over it. However I just don't see a woman being able to motivate and handle so many chauvanistic men as well having the other skills required.

Aha, so that's why Sol Campbell wanted to come back to train with Arsenal.

Could be :p

Is he really gay? The rumours have been around a long time, and I dunno, he's weird, and I'm not saying he's weird so he might be gay. But he's acting weird as if he's hiding something, and being gay is something you'd hide as a footballer.

I'd still kill to know why he really left Arsenal, and why Wenger/board were seemingly happy to let him leave or even pay him to leave, not sure if that is true or not.

Ok so that woman isn't going to motivate anyone with a flash, well you never know, she could have a good pair. But i was thinking other female managers in the future could ;)

THe commentator is bad simply because, well most commentators about now have been around for ages, cliches seem normal with them because they came up with them 20-30 years ago. When a new woman comes on and pretty much copies every saying every major commentator has come up with in the past 20 years, it felt fake, forced and crap.

THeres also very few female managers of female teams so a man being the best manager of a womans team isn't surprising. She should get a fair shot, will be worse for "women" if its a stunt rather than giving a decent up and coming manager a real shot. Would also be funnier if Torquay had the first female manager, and she sucked, to see what Helen would say on Soccer AM every week.
