I had a go at some kid in the street

I bet it was the one well behaved kid in town, and now thanks to you he's scared of meeting new people, and will die a virgin.

I hope you're proud of yourself.

Are you some kind of massive nitwit or what? It's not about 'standing' up to a kid, its about telling a kid to have some ****** manners and not drop cans outside on the pavement. It's really no more complicated than that. Good old fashioned manners and behaviour, very sadly lacking today. Do you get it now or would you like a translator?

The above post shows you have no manners, your OP shows you get easily annoyed and the fear you convey in your posts shows that you wouldnt tell an adult off for throwing litter outside your house unless they are a bigger pansy than yourself

So now, just because you felt the urge prove your 'alpha-status' over a 12 year old child who dropped a can, you have to hide your car due to the fear of having it vandalising.

So was the risk of damage, which could theoretically cost you thousands depending on what they do, worth it over a dropped can?

Oh nothing major, but as I got out of my car outside my house this afternoon, I looked round and saw an empty can of coke rolling on the pavement. This kid, probably about 12, was the culprit. I said "did you just drop that??" He said " yeah?" with a tone of 'what you gonna do about it'. I said "why don't you pick it up then" with a stone cold face to show him I mean business, and a tone that was calm, assertive but which made him know I won't take any crap from him. He actually picked it up, said nothing and walked on, lol. I said "thank you". He'll probably come back and try and kick my headlights in, so I've hidden the car. :D

Very barve of you to have a go at a 12 yr old kid.

If you want to be a vigilante instead of standing upto litter bugs do you come upto Notts and shut down some of the crack houses ruining our city please?

Good on the OP'er tbh but hiding the car was silly tbh, loving the OTT posts by some of the forumites "OMG YOU ARE A BIG BULLY !!!", yeah.....ok, kids 40 years ago would have had their hides reddened if they were caught doing that, yet today if you ask a kid in a stern manner to pick up a can they have thrown on the pavement then your practically labelled a bully, dude just asked a kid to pick his trash up, hardly makes him a bad person.

To be honest, the OP was in the right from the start.

I had my bike out in the street the other day, bunch of chav kids kicking the football around and it got disturbingly close to cars and my bike, I went out and asked them what would happen if they hit my bike. They replied "carry on". I then recognised one of the kids and said abruptly "or I could speak to your dad Ox and then see what happens, or you guys could make use of the park 2 streets over?"... They knew not of the park and now invite me to play a little footie when they go over each evening if I take the dogs for a walk :D

This thread demonstrates the sort of apathetic and smart arse attitude so prevalent in society today; no one gives a **** about minor infringements of the law such as:-

Cycling on pavements/wrong side of the road/without lights etc.
Graffiti & litter.
Mindless vandalism of many sorts inc' bus shelters, telephones, trees & plants etc.
Parking outside banks/ATMs on double yellows, driving the wrong way down one way streets, driving whilst on the phone etc.

We've already had the "gives the street cleaners something to do", "You've never done it then?" and "there are more important things in life", sort of comments together with the "don't want to get stabbed" and the inevitable **** from the fish finger king.

If we want to live in a decent place, we have to act like decent people and be responsible for 'policing' some of the above; the police have better things to do and if enough people stand up together to the perpetrators of these 'crimes', things will get better.

No it won't. And things aren't bad enough to need getting better.

Maybe we should sort out the amount of waste that goes to landfill that's actually littering up the country and turning entire areas into filthy dumps.

Only problem i have is the none of you would tell me to pick up the can i drop, but you would to a kid.

lol - I'd make you eat the can mate ;)

I think it's good on the OP for doing it, but a bit silly to make a thread about it as it seems like a normal thing to do - as adults we need to show/tell kids what is right/wrong, it's a social responsibility. Unfortunately not everyone responds the same way.

I do agree that kids are a lot more likely to do minor things like litter etc.. which if not addressed at the time becomes acceptable to them which isn't right.

Yes it will - it's "fixing broken windows" theory, and we don't need to wait until things get insufferable to do something about it. There is no reason to tolerate poor behaviour from anyone or any kind of anti-social behaviour just because 'it's not that bad yet'.

Maybe we should sort out the amount of waste that goes to landfill that's actually littering up the country and turning entire areas into filthy dumps.

I would think that this has more to do with council/state/gov management rather than individual social behaviour. We are not responsible as individuals if all our waste does not get treated in a responsible waste - we are responsible though for not littering and recycling. Eitherway it's a completely different issue than what the OP posted about.
