Im introuble with an Ebay buyer

am i being thick but for me it says postage 6.99 in the box at the top

Yes you are, it says:

Postage: FREE P&P Royal Mail 1st Class StandardSee more services See discounts | See all details
Estimated delivery within 4-5 business days

I dont use ebay myself, I use my friends account for him to order me the odd thing.

He buys & sells a fair bit and I was under the impression that the normal way to do things is to always give free postage and then just build your postage cost into the reserve price? cant really go wrong that way.

No sympathy. My only regret is that you have probably conned several other people in the past and will again.

Regardless of the rights or wrongs of how you worded your advert, if they're going to pull the 'oh no poor disabled boy all his money boo hoo' card over the postage cost which was in massive letters, I would make absolutely 100% clear to them that nothing other than some games, a cable and an empty box is what you plan to deliver, else you're just going to get more grief in a weeks time and eBay don't take kindly to selling boxes.

No specy? Thought he just left it in the box in the pic. If its just a box of the specy with stuff thats terrible. Poor buyer thinking he got a specy and games.

sorry but you are at the wrong.. i think you should just let it go.. doesn't matter if the disabled boy is just a lie.. cos it probably is :)

He isn't even selling a Speccy, just the empty box. It is a misleading auction all round.

I suggest he double checks with the buyer that he understands it is just an empty box and no Spectrum is included.

If the buyer does realise that, then refund his postage and post the items at the seller's expense.

rob, are you a conman on the weekend?!

this is the type of guy that would sell a car and put "only 5000 miles on the clock" and put a sticker over the actual clock that says "5000 miles" what a scammer!

Why the hell do people think he is trying to con someone.

I agree on the postage issue, whilst it is obvious in the item description, this should be stated in the correct P&P thing.

However, the auction is in no way misleading. He has clearly listed what is included and stated even in the title that there is NO COMPUTER.
If someone buys that thinking they are getting a computer then they are retarded.

Yes but he's circumventing eBay fees, that's the issue here.

I'd just let it go if I were you mate. The buyer should have read the description properly, but then again, FREE postage is not right if you are going to charge it anyway. Wrong section = your bad.

The disabled kid story is probably a lie though and is a pretty **** underhanded tactc.

Ban the scammer! :p

On a serious note, £6.50 postage seems steep and I wouldn't be happy if it said free postage at the top only to discover there was actually a charge.

I do accept some responsibility as it does say Free P&P in the postage section...

Some? In my eyes, you screwed up and certainly shouldn't get the extra £6.50. How can you list something as Free P&P then add something else in the listing - not cool. :(

Yes but he's circumventing eBay fees, that's the issue here.

But he was selling games, in the games section (unless i've had a massive brain fail and missed something), so it wouldn't let him add postage, yet it's clearly going to cost him something to post 15 games to someone, so he said (in rather massive lettering) that he would be asking for another £6.50 to cover delivery also.

It's a bit unfair to accuse him of circumventing fees if eBay prevented him from actually just adding a perfectly reasonable fee in the P&P section.

In my opinion, if eBay is going to prevent adding fees like that in certain sections, any listing in that section should say 'eBay prevents P&P fees being listed for this auction type, check listing description for details of postage terms' rather than 'Free P&P'.

Expecting the sellers to absorb postage costs into item values is a bit low IMO. In this case, the confusion has meant that someone has bid £16 assuming free postage, so whilst they may only have bid £10 if it was listed as £6.50 postage, perhaps whoever bid £15 in second place was aware of the £6.50 and had taken it into account, meaning the seller has potentially lost out on some money because eBay have introduced confusion into people who can't be bothered to fully read a listing.

edit - also, if the excuse is that their poor disabled kid didn't bother to read it properly, perhaps send back some friendly advice that they teach said child the importance of checking what he is buying and making sure he has fully read the description. Spending money without even reading what you are buying is a recipe for disaster. If he's that 'special' that he can't be trusted to do so on his own, he needs to be supervised when spending money clearly.

What's the problem? Usually I would be annoyed at this sort of thing but the listing is clear (with big "No Computer" and huge P&P fees at the bottom that's impossible to miss) so well...

However this is why I don't use ebay any more (unless buying some cheap buy it now tat), ebay have made it impossible to actually make money any more. With something you sell for £8 (and there's no way I'd sell anything worth more than that on there!) postage will cost about £3 (al least), fees will end up something stupid like £3 as well and so for your hours work (photographing, listing, packing, going to post office...) you make £2 if you're lucky! And now it's been made worse by the fact on some items you can't sell stuff with extra P&P! It makes perfect sense however for ebay, not only do they get a larger final selling fee but they also get money from those building in the postage in the selling fee by taking money for the reserve...

Having just read their email again, i'd respond saying I was disgusted by the way they had chosen to use the boys disability to try and make me feel guilty and I had decided I no longer wanted to sell them the item anyway on principle, then use the second chance thing to offer it to the next person.
