Following a thread on the Crackberry forums, I ordered parts to give me Bold a new look:

Excuse poor quality pics

The back is metal coated and gives the phone a lovely weight, feels like a completely new phone :)

Looks nice, I was thinking of getting a white kit for my 8900.

Also I have the opportunity to swap my Hero for a brand new 9000. I know the 9000 is fairly old now, but I <3 BlackBerry's and I feel I would get more use from a 9000.

What do you think?

I know the 9700 release is imminent though, hmm what to do!

Nice one mate...im going to be doing mine in a few weeks time as my warranty will have run out by then...ill probably go all black as well. Also they are now selling official White Bolds...seen it on a website...not bad looking.

Leon the 9000 is a great phone but is starting to show its age....you can probably pick one up cheap now with the imminent arrival of the 9700 which is part of the Bold line up. Seen the the 9700 Onyx on a particular website being sold for around £420 sim free and unlocked which is a damn good price as i thought it would be close to £500. Ive placed my order with them so will be expecting it to be with me by the 13th of Nov as that is when they will have stock...cant name them as they are a competitor but they are based up north and probably one of the biggest suppliers of sim free mobiles...google search is your friend here:).

Looking forward to getting my hands on one..plus i have the new Storm2 coming next week that my vodafone guy ordered for me...£450 offline as i dont need a contract...pretty sure that will keep me amused till the 9700 lands on my doorstep.

Bar the trackpad, the 9700 isnt really much of a step up from a 9000 imo. It may be a bit lighter and what not but not worth an upgrade I dont think

You see I might get the 9000 as I'm hoping it will drop in price quite substantially once the 9700 is out. Buy an all new black housing for it and wait till May 2010 to see what else comes out otherwise I may as well then upgrade to a 9700.

I'll proberly regret it but it seems the most sensible option.

Did you order this housing from SW_BOX matey?

I can't decide wether to get the housing in metal black (i think thats what you have) or the full white kit (don't know if its too girly though haha)

Black all the way, not biased or anything :p

The metal case is quite heavy, I personally like it but if you dont like heavy phones then probably isnt for you.

Yeah I dont mind heavy phones, I have a 8900 at the moment which is light though, butfaily big, I'm just thinking the slightly bigger QWERTY keyboard will improve my typing!

Ermmm it comes with double the memory that the 9000 Bold comes with ie 256mb compared to the 128mb that the Bold comes with.

I agree i dont think its much of an upgrade bar the trackpad, more memory and the smaller footprint of the device.

But for me im getting one as ive played with one a few weeks ago..and i loved it...although it was a dev unit still was very fast and the trackpad makes a world of difference also with the the more memory added its very fast.

Well fair enough, I certainly agree that I would have one over the 9000 but I cant justify the expense :p

True but i found it very strange that sim free its cheaper than what the Bold was selling when it was first out.

Im picking mine up for £420 sim free which i think is a stonking price.

Not bad at all, though I just bought my bold for £190. May well consider chopping it in when the 9700 has been out a bit. Its my first Blackberry and I have to say its superb :D

How much was the new case?
My loudspeaker has stopped working so will have to take it apart sometime, so might as well make the swap. Anyone else have loudspeaker issues?

Case was something like £10, not much at all. As for the loudspeaker issue, a couple of mates had problems with their loudspeakers and if you press the area near the camera it gets louder. Their solution was to wedge paper under the back case to apply pressure to make it work properly.

Mine has no sound at all?

Does the case fit well, I've dropped mine a few times and have dings and dents in the chrome bit around the outside.
How easy was it to change?

Thanks!

Well the front fits fine, the back was a bit loose which is solved by putting some blu tac between it and the battery :p Others have reported the opposite with it being a very snug fit so must be manufacturing issues hehe

Its very easy to change, took me 10 mins to do it including new trackball :)
