Close the fridge door or leave it open?

I close it in general :) unless it's just for a glass of juice which only takes a few seconds

The cold, is in the food, the air, has relatively little heat in it to speak of and one pass through the cold side of the refridgeration unit and the air is cold again. The second you open the door the movement of air you create means the majority of the air has been mixed or moved with warm air already. If you close the door in 2 seconds, or 30 seconds, one cycle through the cooling unit and the air is cold again and the actual contents would have barely warmed up at all.

If I won't be long, I'll leave it open for a bit, the act of opening and closing the door causes more cold air to get out and hot air in, than just doing it once most likely.

Depends. At home open. At uni close because the fridge is across the otherside of the living room. Came down and found the freezer door slightly open this morning. ******* girls!

I've got a thermometer in my fridge and it takes a few minutes of leaving the door open before it moves.

That is down to the reaction time of the thermometer rather than an indication of the actual temperature within the fridge.

As soon as you open the fridge door a large amount of the air inside is mixed with air outside.

This is the OP's point. What's the point in closing it then opening it in a few seconds? just leave it open :/

Worst thread ever btw:p

It starts to close itself but never shuts completely. I usually close it if I'm going in and out every few seconds, though, but just leave it if only one visit is required.

I normally close it, in the summer i might have it open for a few seconds for some extra cooling, but watch out for blue bottles ;)
