Hi,

I have an old 7900gt at the moment and i need an upgrade - depserately :P

I am unsure which to go for out of the cards in the topic as they are all around the same price.

The thing thats drawing me to the 5770 is DX11 and the lower temperatures due to lower power consumption.

However is there a lot less performance than the 4890 and will the 5770 even be fast enough to appreciate DX11 in games?

Cheers

As there aren't any dx11 games out i think its pretty hard to say how it will perform. But i would have thought the 5770 would be ok, it would probs struggle on crisis 2 but then again i would guess most cards will.

4890 if you want the extra performance, but 5770 seems to be a really good package for power consumption, temp, noise, etc, at slightly lower performance. Plus the 5xxx series drivers are new and will improve :)

I personally would be inclined to get the 5770. Although the 4890 may be faster at DX10, the ability to have DX11 outweighs this plus we haven't seen the full potential of these 5 series cards due to drivers not yet being perfected as previously stated. On the res you have as well i imagine it will perform quite well too.

I`ve just gone for a 5770 myself (the Powercolor) for latest technology, lower power consumption (machine will stay on most of the time), development of the new drivers and DX11 support.

Darren - how does it fair in new games matey?

Dunno yet, collecting it tomorrow.
Only PC game I have at the moment is Half-life 2:Episode 1 and 2 which I bought some time ago. Might buy one or two this weekend, if I do I`ll post back.

I expect it to be better than the 4850 I owned a year ago and also better or as good as the the BFG 65nm Nvidia 260gtx OCX I owned some time ago also and hopefully performs well under DX11 especially as the drivers mature. Haven`t played PC games in quite a while so can`t compare like for like.

Cool i think ill pop down there later and get 1, any1 know which 1 to get? i was thinking of the saphire as they are a brand i hear are good quality.

Don`t think it matters, just same parts with different labels on the cards but someone correct me if I`m wrong.
I think Sapphire offer a longer warranty than Powercolor (2 instead of 1 but check up onthis)

Yep, they're all reference cards made by AMD with a sticker on the cooler designed by Sapphire/Powercolor/XFX/whoever. They're all same grade/quality/speed. The only difference really is the warranty and the in-box bundle.

Is the only real difference between the hd5770 and hd4890 as far as performance is concerned, the memory bandwidth?
