**The Dragon Age Origins Thread **

What date can us EA Store buyers pre-load the game?

The general concensus from the EA forums is a few days before-hand, so I'll be checking every 12 hours from midnight on the 1st - just in case EA decide to treat their customers and allow those who pre-ordered to get it the same day as the Americans. Ironic, when you know I refuse to play the lottery, but at least this way I don't lose anything but false hope. I'm guessing about the 4th, should be enough time to get the full download in time for release.

I don't know if DA:O isn't on the Steam activation list mentioned above (thanks, by the way) because it's not released yet, or if it'll be added after the game's out for a few months, or if it'll be off the list but still loggable (assuming the Football Manager mentioned [also above] is 2010 rather than 2009), but being able to log it to my Steam account would be a massive bonus in my eyes. Let's hope mounting fury crested by the recent MW2 fiasco will lead game developers toward a greater consideration of PC gamers, hopefully balancing financial gain with a little more respect for the market. Again, I don't play the lottery, but losing false hope isn't really losing.

That's because Steam isn't a download manager, so i'm not sure why you're comparing them :)

Grudge alert!

Grudge alert, don't know why I'm comparing them, half the thread is people debating if they should pre-order on steam or EADM........ yup, can't think of a reason to compare them myself.

Steam IS just a download manager for most people, because you download games through it ,and it manages that for you.

Personally I don't really like having to open up steam to play games, nor the fact it opens up automatically to the store, it irks me not least because its always stupidly expensive.

Fanboy alert, can't say much about steam unless you're bumming it without people reacting.

I don't hate steam in any way, but its only a download manager for me, with some irritating quirks(like without disabling my AV i get no text, just blank white screens with it). I just don't love it, and I prefer the basic and simple EADM, its fugly, it could look cooler, but it does what I need without 40 things I don't need so I like it.

You were suggesting that Steam is a poor download manager when it isn't a download manager. It's a digital distibution platform with a store, community network and games management system.

It's like saying a Chieftan Tank is a poor vehicle to commute to work in. Just because it kind of has wheels, doesn't make it comparable to a Volkswagen Passat.

In any case, you can change what window it opens on my right clicking on the systray icon, going to settings and selecting your "favourite window". I hope i've helped make your gaming hobby a little less tedious.

Edit:

Oh, you could just open steam, go to View, and select "Mini Games List".

Part of me is interested in this, but the other part just knows that I wont like it. I just wish it wasnt pause and play combat. I would much prefer it if it was turn based rather than this pseudo turn based style. Might try it...dont know yet at this point. Think I would need to play a demo to be sure.

On easy setting, its real time and no real need to pause.

Normal and above you need to pause.

I don't know why but does anyone else feel that the people worrying about not liking it end up quoting reasons why BG was so great?

i.e psuedo turn based system which was perfect for tactical party based combat, found it much better than say fallout 2. Or the 'complicated' D&D style rulesets which actually have a bit of depth to them.

Anyways i'm really looking forward to it now. Bit fed up with the situation on DLC before the game is released but i guess its bioware and they can what they want :)

I'm torn between the CE from the purple shirt people just for the fact it'll come in a shiny box and the steam digital deluxe edition with the better item... Anyone give me any reason to choose one over the other? Or is the EA version best? I'm confused... :(

Games like this need a shiny box!

I would agree apart from the room they take up. Ditched the huge TBC CE for WOW and the CE box for NWN2, both stupidly huge and difficult to store.

Going for the standard version with this as there's plenty there to keep me occupied.

Will getting the demo/character creator on steam let me put my character into the boxed version I'm planning on getting? I guess it will.

Yes because when you sign into EA/Dragon Age social network with your games cd-key it will most likely attach any extra items you have gotten from the character creator or Dragon Age Journeys to your account. You may not even have to go to your online DA account to retrieve your characters if the game searches your comp after installing. I imagine the characters you create are saved locally.

Also people who just go for the cheapest retail box option can still get upto 4 ingame items just by using the character creator and doing the acheivements associated with the flash game DA Journeys ;) (although it seems to be many hours work in itself)
