Do you ever envy young people?

I'm older than the OP and I grew up with great technology, I dunno what you mean. :p

Parents bought an Acorn A3000 when I was 5 (I think), had Sega and Nintendo, the games were great at the time as it was state of the art. :) Walkmans were around then, VCRs etc., what else is there really?

Can't remember when we got the Internet but I was pretty young. I still remember running up massive phone bills, downloading demos that took all night, and the first time I typed "sex" into a search engine. :D

All we didn't have was mobile phones really, but do young kids really need those anyway?

At 25 I think I grew up at the right time for me tbh, although extending it wouldn't go a miss. Not too long though.

I'm happy I started off with wooden toys and trainsets, then Mario and Sonic, TV shows like TNMT and Simpsons in the early days. I can see the **** kids think are great these days.

Why would I envy young people today? I actually HAD a childhood.

In my day we only had 2 rival social networking sites, 1 called the park the other called the playground and they worked!

You had to really work at getting any porn, it wasn't just at the click of a button, so when you did get any you really appreciated it!

Every other person didn't have some kind of clinically defined disorder, if someone was a bit rumbunctious it just meant they weren't playing footy hard enough at dinner time so had too much energy left, it wasn't a mental disorder

Record shops that sold records, mmmmmmmmm......... the smell and feel ;)

How! and Jackanory, Match of the Day at a proper time (in fact footy matches everywhere played at the proper time!!!!), Tiswas, Multicoloured Swap Shop, Why Don't You, The Banana Splits, Secret Army, some of the greatest Television ever made.

When I finally got a computer it had 3.25MHz 8bit processor and 1k of RAM, the only upgrade war was who would be the first to get the 16K memory expansion.

My childhood were truly heady times kids today should envy me.

Is there some weird boundary that happened in 88/89, where those who were born then actually didn't enjoy that 80s/early 90s period that those of us who came before did?

This is very perceptive and it's definitely bugged me before (born in the years specified).

I had the worst of both worlds imo. I was to late for the "pre internet age", but old enough that I wasn't as embroiled as young people today are.

I missed the 90's essentially, and basically grew up in a post 9/11 culture which shows our society to be decaying and pointless.

I would have loved to be 20 in the 80's/90's

Yeah I remember building up the balls to go and buy some from a newsagents, I walked about 20 min from where I lived so no one would recognise me, and just hoped they wouldn't ask for ID. They didn't and I had my first porno mag, I think it was fiesta lol!

Dexter's Lab, 2 stupid dogs, JOHNNY QUEST, He Man, Scooby Doo, TRAP DOOR to name a few!

Angry Video Game Nerd also shows us how we all felt about video games, even though it was so exciting :D

As for pr0n, back then it was danger pr0n, there was no wireless or laptops, you had to sneak downstairs at midnight to catch the TelevisionX freeview for 10mins !

So I'm told ¬_¬

Interesting. The late 90s were pretty 'meh' (the early 90s were just still recovering from the synth music and neon clothing fads from the 80s...) I must admit.

Were the 80s really so much better? Has the world really become notably more materialistic since then? Seriously, what is there really to envy in the lives of today's teenagers, I mean, you're not dead yet... it's not like there's stuff they can do that you can't.

I'm still waiting for my hoverboard, and I don't care if I'm 60 when they arrive, I'll still have a go...

I envy the little amout of responsibility they have, I wish I was young again so I could bum about and do nothing.

Fiesta, most teenage boys of a certain era's first 'real' love ;) :D

I too wish I was born earlier.

I would give anything right now to see an 80's metal gig when all these bands were in their prime. Nowadays its often just a bunch of older guys playing stuff they used be able to play much better.

Music was so much better 20/30 years ago. I'm 19 by the way :)

Really wish I was 29/20 back in the 80's.
