I'm older than the OP and I grew up with great technology, I dunno what you mean. 
Parents bought an Acorn A3000 when I was 5 (I think), had Sega and Nintendo, the games were great at the time as it was state of the art.
Walkmans were around then, VCRs etc., what else is there really?
Can't remember when we got the Internet but I was pretty young. I still remember running up massive phone bills, downloading demos that took all night, and the first time I typed "sex" into a search engine.
All we didn't have was mobile phones really, but do young kids really need those anyway?
