I'm planning to build a PC for around £600 (not iincluding software/os etc) - maybe more maybe less but that is my aim.

I'll be getting a new case - any recommendations - size will be either 1/2 or full height
Motherboard - good value Motherboard - recommedations? Has to have 2 pci slots
Processor - recommendations
Drives i'll be putting in 2 SATA drives a terrabyte and a 500gb
Memory wise will go for 3gb

Machine will mainly be used for video editing (pinnacle) so as powerfiul as I can get it.

Any thoughts however random appretiated

Make a choice whether or not you want to wait for the new i5 processors which are a like a mini version of the current i7's which will come out early next month. You will be able to get the motherboard, ram and CPU for around 300 ish pounds apparently.

Is £600 is your budget then dont blow a 1/4 of it on a case; cheap and cheerful like the Silverstone PS02B or Antec300

Have you got any spare components or you're looking for a full specc?

It's pretty much a full build so. Screen and keyboard not required so if you have any thoughts on a off the shelf model then that would also be appretiated

I would personally wait for the i5 and DX11 graphics cards before upgrading. Just give it 2 more weeks.

i5 consumes less energy, performs just as good as the i7 920 in terms of gaming and general useage, generates less heat and priced similarly to the phenom II quads.

If the new graphics cards and cpu doesn't interests you, thats no problem, because you would still save yourself a fair bit. The prices are likely to drop on other cpu's,the older generation of graphics cards also.

That comes to £635 VAT incl which is £135 over budget but at the same time looks fairly spot on to me - anyone have any thoughts on places to make economies without loosing out too much

So difference between i5 and i7 particularly one doing dual and the other tri memory is not worth the performance benefit?
