Can somebody explain BMW

On an aside (forgive my n00bness), I understand the point of the X5. I don't, however, understand the point of the X6 - if the 6-series is a squashed coupe version of the 5 series, what's the point in a squashed coupe version of the X5?

I've seen them about and think they look ridiculous. Am I alone on this?

No, I think they look so aggressive and awesome :D

Why they make them though? As above, people buy them.

Aside from the above explanations; the 550bhp twin turbo V8 in the BMW 4x4's is being dropped into the next M5 anyway.

Well they can hang on a bit then because fancy that, what is powering the next M5? Oh, the new twin turbo V8.

I didn't know that, so clearly not all my points are rubbish.

It's not a current (new) model Z4M though, as stated in the OP.

According to a report by iMotor, the financial downturn has claimed its latest victim: the BMW Z4 M. A BMW spokesperson told the pub that "Given the current economic crisis there is no business case for a full-on M version of the Z4." Although that's bad news for enthusiasts, there might be a silver lining. Coinciding with an earlier story, BMW may begin offering software upgrades for models fitted with the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. The remapped ECU would increase output by around 20 horsepower (for a net of 326 hp) and a slight bump in torque, and will almost certainly be offered on the new Z4.

The reason is pretty clear.

BMW don't need to explain themselves to tommy b about this, it's the same reason things are the way in the motor trade - money.

That was my original point. The Z4 M would have been a driver's car and it won't exist because "the rich" are more interested in flashy, high-powered 4X4s.

I wasn't justyfying BMW's decision or otherwise, just that all so far missed what he said in the post.

It's true they don't have to justify this to Tommy, but they do have to justify it to the consumer as a whole, as they're the ones that pay their wages.

How do you know if they haven't even made one of the current gen. It could have been a sack of **** for all you know. The M3 does the same job so it makes little sense at this time.

The Porsche Cayenne Turbo S is the 2nd most powerful road car in their range for a while, trumped only by the Carrera GT2 afaik (which retails at £1/3m) so why would BMW be afraid to follow suit, there is a market there for the cars? On the logic in some of this thread, 911 Turbo owners should have a mass action lawsuit and complain.

The phrase that springs to mind is 'horses for courses'

There is a reason I went with a 5 series and not a 3 series. It has nothing to do with engine size or e-peen, its called consumer choice. Would you rather BMW made 1 style of car or maybe one engine for each of its range?

Im struggling to understand your angle on this.

Exactly. The consumer has voted with their feet, the Z4 M was not much of a commercial success and it was pulled.

You answer your own questions, which is why i find your posts bizarre. People are more interested at this end of the market in luxury cars. BMW will build anything which they think will sell, its as simple as that. They believe that the Z4M is not worth producing.

What is it with yoiu and 4x4 bashing, must we have this every six months? Can you just **** off? No one really gives a flying ****.
