Hi all,

I have a car which has fully comprehensive insurance and allows me to drive any other car 3rd party.

I have just bought a cheap banger to drive to and from work do I need to buy another insurace?

Thanks

The 2nd car has to be insured etc iirc and not owned by you.

Please stop giving advice on things you know nothing about. I know I've come across as quite harsh but seriously when it comes to insurance if you are not sure just dont post, because people might make insurance decisions based on misleading advice :)

Which bit was wrong - I know my policy says DOC cover is only applicable on vehicles I dont own, presumably you mean it doesnt have to be insured already?

Educate us then Fox, you obviously have all the answers. :p

DOC does not require the other vehicle to be insured on its own right UNLESS it specifically mentions this in your insurance policy documentation. It does, however, mean that if the vehicle isnt insured in its own right it cannot be left unattended on the public highway.

Not strictly correct as it will remain covered against third party risks whilst that person was still the "driver" and exercised control over the vehicle.

That person will cease to be considered the "driver" when someone else drives it or it could no longer reasonably be said the intial driver was in charge of the vehicle.

It's a question of degree but you are ok to leave it unattended to an extent.
