My dear fellows,

'Tis that time of year again where one has to build a PC from scratch, that 'one' being me. Though it be a rather taxing endevour -recalls 4 previous builds - I very much enjoy it, in a rather warped begrudging way!
So my fellow bretheren, I call upon you to answer a very troubling question, that being:

Is it worthwhile to build my system (with a meagre budget of £800-900) before the festive season ends or after? In other words, when am I likely to get more bang fer me buck?

My hat's of ye all in advance, and grand thx be too ye.

:D

I wouldnt bother holding out at the moment since buuilding 6pc's and helping mates with another 4 in the last 6months price have barely changed i dont think they are really going to fall anymore than they have. theres not really any new tech on its way in that time frame other than the gtx300 series which i dout will fit into your budget.

lol I was forced to build mine early, My motherboard died. :( I havnt finished building it yet, Im waiting for the 5870 to drop a little in price. But if I had the choice, think I would have waited over christmas watching the prices :D

Build your computer anytime.. its not seasonal

I think considering your budget (which is pretty good though in fairness) not a great deal will change in price anytime soon though I don't think.

We could alll try & hold out for a £20 drop here or there but in the grand scheme of things, surely just best to get it built & start using the beast :)

Will VAT go from 15% to 17.5% after Christmas? If so do you want to give that nice Mr Darling an extra £20 or £25 ?

this would be the thing to consider, i think prices are pretty stable atm. You might get a few quid of a g card when nvidia release their range, but nothing that will make you regret your decision.

As long as you can buy some presents for your family and firends then do it

Firstly, do you speak like that in real life?

Secondly, there is never a bad time (excluding just before big new product releases) to build a PC. Whatever you build will be out of date in a few months anyway, so there's no point waiting. It's just extra time you have to go without using it, and you never know what might happen before then - your circumstances may change.

Why kind Sir, I do indeed, speak the way I write in real life. Why do you ask? 'Tis English no?

Ah, well thank goodness, comforting is the realisation that I am not alone in this world good sir. I believed us to be a dying breed, and I must confess that I've been speaking in a rather more modern fashion for the last few years just in order to keep up appearances. It had become rather tiresome, having to think about basic sentence construction to fool the 'hoi polloi' and general riff-raff. Therefore I must extend a most gracious debt of gratitude out to you ol' chap, for you have liberated me from the shackles of the modern English language.

I do have a further confession to make, as terribly embarrassing as it is in such a place as this: I'm afraid I don't have the foggiest idea what all this, what do you call it, overclocking (?) is about. It might be a wise consideration for you to disregard any advice I may have given earlier, I was just purely reciting what others appear to have stated.

I'm afraid I must go, my wife appears to have served supper but twenty whole minutes early again, most insufferable.

Good luck with your computer-machine my good man.
