I've looked around at a few similar threads, but everyone seems to have their own needs, so one more can't hurt.

I'm looking for something that'll be good for a first time overclocker, and be pretty quiet if it has any built in fans. Currently my default option is the MSI P55 GD65, but I'm looking at the Asus Maximus III Formula, even if it does cost a fair bit more. I wouldn't mind going a bit cheaper than the Asus, but if it's worth the money then I don't mind.

Thanks in advane for any suggestions.

a little expensive but its a lovely board like all ROGs I guess

saying that the ROG don't give nothing extra over its compaction in terms of overclock or performance your just paying for its looks and I mean its drop dead. why not just a normal asus P55 evo or something ?

I agree it is a great looking board, but that isn't really going to matter much to me as it's going in a windowless case (TJ10B), so if the Asus P55 evo is just as good minus the looks then that's fine.

I have a Gigabyte GA P55 UD5 with an 860 @4.1GHz, nice board, if this is a bit on the expensive, have a look at Gigabyte GA P55 UD4 or Asus P7P55D Pro, the MSI GD65 you mention is also pretty decent.

I was just looking at the Asus P7P55D Pro, it seems to fit all my needs. At the moment I'm trying to pick between the MSI GD65 and the Asus P7P55D Pro, the MSI is a tiny bit cheaper, but not enough to really make any difference. Is either one, the Asus or MSI, better than the other?
