How did your/your parents midlife crisis experess itself?

Dad took an extended 6 week holiday to Cuba, with no contact to us back home. Originally meant to be 2 weeks, but when the 3rd rolled around we were wondering if we'd see him again.

Mum divorced him when he got back, funny thing was he couldn't really see what he'd done wrong. I mean we knew where he was right?! Wacky Dad.

My dad bought a 1947 Rover, in dire state, and is currently proceeding to repair it in as backwards way as humanly possible, so it has nice shiny chrome and fresh painted panels, newly stitched seats - but the electrics dont work and the gearbox doesnt allow forward motion :(

Ha ha, I know someone who did a similiar project (not a midlife crisis). It's odd, you start with the visuals, maybe because its easier.

Well im 50 today. My crisis is i just rebuilt my pc with some new parts installed windows 7 and now im going to murder some spotty geeks on cod4 :)

My dad cut down his drinking, stopped eating boiled eggs every day and became a vicar. He also buys lots of gadgets. He's got the biggest monitor in the world for writing sermons on.

I often think people who are accused of going through a mid life crisis are often having fun just like the rest of us only people think they should have grown out of it by now :p

Dad bought a Dax Rush kit car, built it and crashed it.

He bought a Westfield, built it, raced it, got bored of it, crashed it, repaired it, sold it - misses it.

He then bought a beautiful Porsche 944 S2 in Guards red with just 40k on the clock with full Porsche owners club history and accreditation. It was a fantastic car and im now looking at getting one too.

Now he drinks a bottle of wine a night, watches top gear until his eyes bleed and then complains that there is nothing else worth watching on TV.

Dads eh? Gotta love em.

My old man bought a canal boat that was essentially an unfinished shell with one of his friend's and his brother. The intention was to fit it out, paint it and then sell it on for a profit, the proceeds of which they'd use to buy a sea-going fishing boat from which they'd go wreck fishing. They started off well, my dad being a highly skilled electrical and instrument technician fitted all the plumbing, electrics and so forth, while his mate and his brother fitted a new engine. They got quite far with it in fairly short order, but then just seemed to lose interest after 6 months. It then sat in my dad's mate's lockup unfinished and untouched for about 3 years before they sold it for a few hundred quid more than they bought it, which is a massive loss when you consider all the materials, parts and time that went into it.

I don't know what my dad is into (don't really know him), but my dad-in-law is trying sooooo hard to have a mid-lifer but failing somewhat in his efforts. I think so far it's got as 'severe' as thinking about buying an old MGB then buying my Civic Type R when we sell it. He's already 55!

He did manage to splash out on a digital camera for £35 off one of his workmates though, if that counts? :p

My parents never had one, only thing I can think of is my dad took up golf about at 45 hardly, rock and roll but he did join a private course.
