Hi guys,

We supply a lot of goods to the UK market, however have just received our first export order. I've looked on the HMRC website but there is far too much to read through quickly!

Just wondering if anyone knows about this. Exporting to non EU country.

Thank you!

Mal

I export goods daily all around the world - what do you need to know specifically?

Thanks for your help there mate.

We'll initially be exporting goods worth under £10,000 to a school in Oman. It's just general computer equipment. I was wondering if we need to be registered with anything or licensed with anyone etc, and also, how we work the VAT on this, as we are VAT registered, so I imagine we don't charge VAT but have to prove the goods have left the UK?

Thanks once again,

Mal

I've never needed a specific license to export our goods (electronic parts) - I don't think computer equipment requires a license but may be best to double check - just in case.

You won't be charging any VAT, I assume you're shipping via a forwarder or courier - just provide them with your VAT number and they will declare the export with customs for you. Paperwork from forwarder or airway bill from courier should be sufficient to prove your export in case you get queried.

You'll also need to send 5-6 copies of invoice preferably signed or stamped, at least 1 of them on a letterhead with the goods for customs.

Exporting is fairly painless, couriers/forwarders take care of most the work :)

reminds me of the recent scam recently where someone kept claiming the VAT back on goods they were exporting but didnt actually export multiple times and they had millions from it lol.

Yup you still claim VAT as normal on the purchases , should have no problems with customs delaying things unless you're claiming back every month (which shouldn't affect you, since most of your sales are within UK)
