why oh why do people bother?

Its obviously been used for some kind of rally, probably for charity too. There's a URL about computers on the rear bumper which will explain the plate. Hardly worth buying, but it's just for a laugh, I doubt they think it really looks like a Deloran.

This has clearly been done for a laugh and as has been eluded to, probably for a road rally of some kind. May even have been the Student BrakeAway. Crazy vehicles like that were a common site in the convoy.

Personally, I think it looks freakin' sweet! If I was doing another charity road rally I'd actually seriously consider buying that for it.

Edit: It was used on the Sucata Run :)

Exactly, this isn't a Corsa with a cretinous body kit. It's been pretty well done too, obviously a fair bit work gone into it and it's similar enough to the DeLorean shape that you can tell exactly what it's supposed to be. Obviously not a daily driver, but for a banger rally it would be perfect.

That looks rather cool

Granted, I wouldnt want to pay much for it but if I had garage space I'd probably put a daft bid on for a laugh!

I think its awesome. Yes, its not a delorean, but that isn't the point, as it's blatantly obvious. As a joke its awesome.

Exactly this.

I remember seeing a post somewhere with a very similer looking car being used on one of the fun rally things.

As I mentioned earlier, when I did the Student BrakeAway there were herds of cars done up like that. The winners were a group who took a Volvo estate done up to look like ECTO-1 (ghostbusters). My friends did up a Previa to look like Thunderbird 2. I was boring and simply applied two tonne of stickers to the S3. Didn't feel like nailing cupboards to the roof or strapping painted chipboard to the boot :D

Gratuitous shots of aforementioned cars:
