Anti-war protesters hit a new low: defacing poppy posters

They should have put:

"War sucks, but at least we're going to have a ****ing good Paralympic team in 2012."

I gather that this has happened precisely once.

Other posters have been amended to read "For their sake, bring them home." which seems an entirely reasonable amendment.

Oh look DD bringing up BNP for no reason

I hate people that use other means to get their message across, the can **** off if they are going to use the Poppy Appeal for their mundane beliefs.

I brought it up purely to counter the statement that the British Legion doesn't involve itself in politics.

Mundane beliefs like bringing our troops home?

You just have to bring up the BNP now its cool, you are not cool.

I don't think they want to come home, would you, all they want is more/better kit and weapons, how about asking them and not making their minds up for them, last time I looked you can quit the army if you want to after a period of time. All these people do is stick their noses because they are so bored in life.

I'm anti war. Trouble is in this mixed up world of corrupt ***holes ignoring you, sometimes you've got to do ****ish things to get heard.
This is one of those things, I'm not saying it was a good thing to do, but people need to be heard.

Dirty Dog - anyone can give their opinion on nick griffin just like anyone else, an organisation can give their official comments on their views to him too. That doesn't make them a political organisation as already said, and then you just repeated yourself even when your argument was already put to rest. Leave the thread if you're just going to talk about bnp **** because it's not wanted and I don't understand why you think we like reading bnp nonsense? we just like to take the **** out of them.

Anyway.
I think it's a clever way to bring the topic up, but it really is bad bringing the british legion into this.

There is plenty anti-war sentiment out there and pprotest groups that are involved.

They don't have to deface a poppy appeal poster to get the message across as there are other mediums for them to do this.

Personally I think there's a greater case for prosecuting Blair for opening the floodgates of immigration just so he could accuse the Tories of being racist.

I'm anti war, but I'm not anti soldiers getting the correct treatment during and after wars.

Soldiers don't choose to fight wars. It's their job.

Asking Nick Griffin not to wear a poppy is involving itself in politics ?

Is it not more a case of them not wanting him dragging them in ?

For me they have involved themselves in politics here. I find it strange that they bothered to ask at all, it was always likely to cause more publicity and be reejcted.

The normal protocol is to ignore or distance, but not to directly engage or comment. Like Charles does. Or is supposed to.

I feel i should have been part of the advert, however they cant seem to be pro gov because of the line of work they are in, and they can't be againist the war because of the line of work they are in, they are a charity business and to take away the war would made them less popular meaning less funding.
I see nothing wrong with that.

British legion involvement with veterans and families of those killed would have went on regardless of whether the war in Afghanistan went ahead or not.

World War II, Korea, The Falklands, Gulf War of 1990 ..... they have helped many of those to fought and the families of those who died.

I can't see what's so low about what they've done. I think it's low that our politicans are sending naive young men to die and get there arms and legs blown off in wars they haven't got the balls to fight themselves.

I guarentee you that if the politcians/daily mail journalists who keep telling us it's in a national interests to stay in Afghanistan had to go on the frontline and risk there own lives they'd soon change there minds about whether its in the nations interest..
