Essentially, p'exed car at dealership on the 10/10/09 and got the 320D. Today i receive the V5C for the 320 along with another piece of mail from the Essex police force intending to prosecute me for 43mph on the B184. This is for the old car on the 21st of this month. Obviously it was not me but the new owner. When i part exed i turned over the V5C to the dealership. Obviously someone has bought it and gotten flashed in a 30. What steps do i take here?

Not had one so not 100% sure, but I would have thought you would put the garage as the new owner seeing as you sold it to them and if they sold it on again then it's up to them to hand over the new owners details.

Doh in my panic i didn't read the whole thing. Will sort it out then :)

Your only legal duty is to name the person driving.

You cant name the person driving as you have a dated receipt saying you part exchanged the vehicle on x/x/x date

Nothing to worry about :)

errm i hoon up the B184 a lot... how did they catch the car? theres no speed cameras there. Was it a van or something?

I know the last 2 times I've swapped my car on the documentation (like receipt/bill of sale) I've got them to date and put the time for the trade purely to have that extra bit of evidence in case of this sort of situation.

Dosen't say. If theres no cameras then i assume mobile. The dealership said they'd sort out the documentation, i do have proof of date and sale though so i should be ok. I think its a case of the documents not being updated yet on the database.

Found this on a website:

Chipping Ongar - B184
Camera is located between Four Wantz roundabout and Ongar town centre, just before Mayflower Way. Clearly visible. More Details >

Chipping Ongar - B184
Mobile unit is waiting to catch you out adjacent to Ongar station and Tesco Express.

Probably the mobile unit!

he deserved to get caught if he couldn't spot them. there are also signs up in the area showing a picture of a helicopter and underneath it say police traffic enforcement

ah i know about the camera on the old underground station. Maybe it was that. I suppose there's a lot of places for mobile units too. Its not really a problem for me though, as i slow down for the towns/villages, where as so many 40mph everywhere drivers don't... :D

Was the letter just a NIP or did it include any photo evidence?

this is what was worrying me, the Helicopter enforcement. Do they really do that?
