EVGA GTX 295

one thing to add tho... all these people saying about 5870 (which i would recommed over 295) DX11 isnt that important if trying to future proof, as by time games like crysis 2 come out. they will be new Ati and Nvidia cards out. This is just first wave cards and normally first wave are trumped by second wave improved cards within 12months

So might be worth getting a 260 or 275 second hand for say £100.00 you could then use this for physx when you upgrade in 12months time for a a lot better card

While my natural preference is towards Nvidia, I think it would be mad getting a 295GTX now. The 5870 has DX11, overclocks better, uses less power, will probably have more headroom after more driver updates, is less dependant of dual GPU scaling and costs less.

If it where me my options in order of preference would be -

-Wait till G300 launch then decide on Nvidia or 5870X2/5890 or the Nvidia offering

-Get a 5850, then another down the road after price cuts-

-Get a 5870.

What GPU are you running atm?

Actually it doesnt cost less. Its cheaper here in euroland than the 5870. Which is still out of stock, on preorder.

The majority of games over the next 12 months which will still be dx9 due to console porting etc.

The stuff you quote about the 5870 being better than the gtx 295 is nonsense. As a single card the gtx295 beats the 5870 in fps. Beaten is beaten IMO. Since when are overclockers interested in power consumption? I couldnt care less if my gtx uses 50 watts more than a 5870. I mean ffs I have overclocked to 4ghz.

Only an idiot IMO would buy into the first gen of dx11 cards. When the decent dx11 games come out then the 5870 will be old news.

As a previous poster suggested. The clever ones would buy a second hand gtx275 now and use it for the next 6-9 months, for dx9 titles. When the next killer game comes out for dx11 they would add another card and use the 275 for Physx.

Like all the 'idiots' who bought the 8800GTX back in 2006 for first gen DX10...

Some very sour and misguided people on this forum, branding people idiots for buying a 5800 series card...

This is true. The 5850 is an excellent value card out there at the moment, with the 5870 not far behind in terms of bang for buck. People seem to be obsessing a bit with dx11, but the point is these cards will still play every dx10 game fantastically at max settings, and you still have the option to turn up the eye candy in future games as well...

Yeah, probably running integrated GFX or something, all they can do is dream of owning the latest greatest ATI tech. Oh lets wait and see what comes out in six months time..blah blah, could be run over by a bus tomorrow, waiting is a mugs game, live for the now.:D

Thats utter rubbish. I could afford to run 2x5870x2 or 2x5870 if I wanted and I hardly loose sleep of not having ATI tech:)

If not a matter of wait and see. Its the opposite. Its a matter of not being foolhardy, rushing like a lemming after the "The Emperor's New Clothes", comparing useless 3d marks with other likewise deluded noobs. Its about gaming right? There are no decent dx11 games out. The OS thats runs dx11 is only a week old FFS. So why would you be mug enough to buy a first gen dx11 card, that wont run any game now or for the next 6-9 months better than a gtx275??? When the decent dx11 games come out towards the end of next year, then there will be better cards than the current first gen ATIs.

There is only one thing that the 5870 wins over the gtx2XX and thats card length. So lets get the tape measure out. Wow your card is 11 inches long. Impressive stuff:)

You need to calm down and learn to spell. :)

It's only a graphics card after all.

You need to quit the insults and attitude if you want to debate in a serious manner. If someone is looking for a good card with future proofing for the next 12-18 months, 9 times out of 10 you would recommend a 5870. Its the most powerful single GPU to date, be it in DX9, DX10 or DX11.

When the decent dx11 games come out towards the end of next year, then there will be better cards than the current first gen ATIs.

There may well be better cards, doesn't make the 5870 obsolete though. Plenty of people are still enjoying gaming with 8800GTs etc

People who want latest and greatest will sell theirs and upgrade to the newer gear.

You are a narrow minded immature individual who unfortunately has nothing better to do than troll this forum as proven by the last quote.

You accuse me of insulting and yet you call me narrow minded and immature. Hmmmm. Its sad that you are so sad that you didnt even get the irony. I WAS JOKING!

Battleforge already supports it. STALKER: Call Of Pripyat has just gone gold. DiRT2 is out in December. Aliens Versus Predator in February. And every one of those games interests me, so it's not like I'm just reeling of random titles. Rather than engage in sensible debate you make wildly inaccurate statements in an attempt to support your cause.

what you're suggesting, while making sense, also costs more money. Spending 150ish on a gtx275 now, then 300+ on a new card in 6-9 months time when you can just spend 300 now and get a card that will last 12-24 months is stupid imo.

Also, your argument about buying into first gen tech is completely wrong, look at the 8800gtx, it's probably the best graphics card made compared to what else was available at the time.

So yeah, as i've already said in the thread, i'd get the 5870. You get dx11 for as soon as games are released, a card that will play any game almost aswell as a gtx295, single gpu so there's less complications, and you only spend 300quid now, rather than 450+ if you get a lesser card, then a new one in 6 months. He might not even have the money for a new card if he got a 275 now, who knows what will happen in 6-9 months time.

Fixed that for you.

No, you didnt...

Yea.. Other first gen gfx cards that were rubbish and a waste of money:

3dFX Voodoo1
GeForce256
9700pro
8800GTX

oh....

295 a lot better dont cancel it mate.
I will say cancel it, the new GTX300 are very close.

looks like that the GTX395 will be out in December.
