I had a rather sombre email from central office when i opened the shop this morning, but it didnt give many details. I did however, fear the worst then. According to another source us employees were supposed to be told about the company actually going into administration tomorrow but the media bullied them into making a statement. I dont know how to feel about it really. I only work part time but if they cant find a buyer 6,500 is a lot of jobs to lose! :(

Over priced in comparison to supermarkets anyway. And KPMG are looking to sell them as a going concern, so no job losses yet.

Bad luck to you but meh otherwise. Booze shops devalue a high street anyway in my very humble opinion.

Indeed. There's about five within one minute's walk of me (Wine Rack, Oddbins, Threshers, an indy, and something else), not counting a Somerfield and a Tesco. Competition is all well and good, but it can get a bit ridiculous.

Off-licenses who sell wkds to chavs yes. But it's quite nice to have a local wine shop with an owner who knows what he is talking about.

Bob's Bargain Booze devalues a high street - Threshers doesn't imho. I hope they can save the companies affected, but I don't hold much hope I'm afraid - they have no chance of competing with the supermarkets.

That depends on the human factor, not every place does this.. Laithwaites in Virginia Water and Ascot certainly don't.

As a 'luxury' the vast majority get the dubious quality sold by supermarkets, not many want to pay £10+ on wine, let alone 30+ for 'fine' wine.

Little independent wine shops I think add character somehow. I live in a pleasant Warwickshire village that has loads of quirky shops like that. Threshers I can personally do without because the chain aspect of it adds to the tackiness imho.

What shops "raise" the value of a high street

Hopefully you can work that out for yourself?

Aw hell, i made this because i did not realise this was a necro and thought it was mildly amusing.

So I'm posting it anyway.
