S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl only £3.50 on STEAM!

Saw the offer and thought why not. I've only played an hour or so and see what people mean. I tend to get raped pretty quickly. But I'm willing to give it a chance...

You have to play the game like it was real, that was it's whole point. Some people like it, others hate it. You have to accept you are not a superhero and can die quickly. Think through situations rather than go guns blazing. It makes the game thoroughly rewarding.

Yeah, absolutely.

Coming back to the game a second time, when you are really familiar with it, you realise that with a bit of tactics you can take out difficult areas like the Army base at Cordon even in the very early stages of the game if you plan it right.

Man, I love that base. Spent about a half day trying to clear it out while doing the trader`s `stealing that document` mission. Stealing is not my thing so I decided to take it by force/which was nonexsistent seeing it was still early in the game/ Except there is like two dozen soldiers there armed to the teeth with aks and machineguns opening fire if you get too close. Got killed a few times obviously, but somehow managed to get it unnoticed through a fallen tree, than let them have it through the windows with my crappy sawedoff shotgun. Was crazy, I think I had like 2-3 bandages or something stupid like that so when they hit me I had to try again /thank god for quicksaves/ Once I got hold of an ak74 though things improved significantly and took the base with plenty of weapons&ammo&****. Then sold it all to the trader and could buy some nice armor and vodka/against radiation of course/. Fun times.

Also that silenced specops gun in the game was awesome, too bad I had to kill some friendlies in exos to get it but it was worth it :D

My only gripe with the game that ammo is really scarce and I`m usually not the one complaining about that in games.

I loved the atmosphere of the game at the start, it was a first game of its kind where I was scared to go out at night since it really was suicide. I actually found the game get worse as I progressed since the night vision and weapons were getting better so the mood of the game disappeared with it as I just felt more powerful and story just wasn't strong enough to engage me. I also pretty much figured out the plot twist pretty quickly without ever finishing the game. Still worth a punt especially for the money.

Bought it and thoroughly enjoying it! I spent most of my times sitting by the camp fire listening to them play guitar and talking. Wish I could speak Russian, I only seem to pick on 'da' 'nyet' and 'spasiba'

I'll confirm the Steam version works fine with graphical mods.

I recently ran through the game using the Complete 2009 mod, and before that I was using float 32, the sky mod and a couple others.

yeh wow I bought it and though its not new immediately the visuals and atmosphere are great. Is this a dx10 title? or is that only clearsky

Bought this for £3.50, but I'm finding it hard to get into.

Keep dying on the first mission, even on 'novice'. Is it worth persevering with?

Imo, yes. Don't rush it, just think before you engage the enemy and after a mission or two better weapons and armour will come your way. Make a note to check the different ammo requirements that your hardware requires, some can use more than one type which is obviously very handy.:)

Well, I get shot once. Look down and see that I'm bleeding, then get shot again and die.

I'll give it another go a bit later, though.

I absolutely love the Stalker series..i picked up Shadow of Chernobyl for 4 pound in a sale.My first impressions of the game were not very good, after an hour or so playing the game i turned it off and uninstalled it.

Then one day i decided to give it another shot, and ended up completing it twice, once the vanilla game and then with the Oblivion lost mod.The trouble with the game is it doesn't start off with a bang, you're not some kind of super soldier,it's just you,a couple of rubbish guns and a large deadly and bleak landscape to explore, but once you get into it there isn't anything else quite like it :)

Downloaded this yesterday and enjoying it. The AI are intelligent ( several situations where i'm not sure if ive killed the enemy, resulting in a cautious appoach to investigate finding no body, the enemy having moved to a more stategic location). Inaccuracy of weapons is good. As it was only £3.50 i find myself dipping into, not completing all the side quests, switching it off when i find myself getting killed a lot and coming back to it later.
I'm sure if i payed £20+ i would grind my way though it in marathon sessions and not really enjoy it as much.
Got myself a decent AK now but enjoy the sawn off.
Well worth £3.50..........

This is an awesome way of putting it.I finished the game 3 times and will again with Complete 09 mod, it really is amazing. The world design and atmosphere is unsurpassed.

Yes, I did it last night and it looks good. Saying that I didn't run it before I applied the mods, all 500mb worth
