xbox 360 elite noisy!

Bought one of the limited edition Forza Elite packs yesterday and overall I'm very happy with it. I do wonder though, are they supposed to be that noisy?!
It's not too bad on the menus and stuff, bit of fan whir but nothing too noticeable but when I launch the game its like a Dyson!! Well not quite but the fan is much louder than my pc and the disc seems to grind away in the drive.

Just wondered whether anyone can confirm whether these 360s normally are quite loud during gameplay or if I have a duff'n and need to take it back. I have come from a PS3 (couldn't get on with the spawn of satan controller) and wasn't expecting it to be as quiet as the PS3 but if anyone (preferably with both) could do a quick compare and let me know if mine if faulty?

The trouble being that the fan (double 80mm possibly IIRC) isnt the most efficient or the best quality that MS could have used.
Some 360's are noisier than others... especially the dvd-drives. (IE; Mine is quieter than my brothers)

If it's just the noise that causing you problems/concerns then it doesnt really warrant a trip back to MS... especially as it's a brand new one.. You could give them a ring (020 7365 9792 or 0800 587 1102) and see what they say.

A note on Dvd-Drives;
Check your discs! I'd recommend checking your discs quite often. If you can hear the disc 'grinding' away in the drive as it spins then that's a cause for concern. Check the discs for concentric circles scratched into them.
My brother went through 3 copies of Fifa 09, and all MS would do was replace the DVD-Drive! :(

Yes they are very noisy, though you can get around this by installing the games to you're hdd, I'm guessing you have one as you have an elite.

Will improve loading times as well.
 
never really noticed much noise before, but then again I suppose I'm comparing again my computer, which has more fans than Andy Murray :)

Have just installed it to the hard drive, I didn't realise you could do that. It's now much better. Cheers guys.
