Michael Ballack (Germany), Chelsea
Gianluigi Buffon (Italy), Juventus
Iker Casillas (Spain), Real Madrid

Diego (Brazil), Juventus
Didier Drogba (Ivory Coast), Chelsea
Michael Essien (Ghana), Chelsea
Samuel Eto'o (Cameroon), Inter Milan
Steven Gerrard (England), Liverpool
Thierry Henry (France), Barcelona
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Sweden), Barcelona
Andres Iniesta (Spain), Barcelona
Kaka (Brazil), Real Madrid
Frank Lampard (England), Chelsea

Franck Ribery (France), Bayern Munich
Wayne Rooney (England), Manchester United
John Terry (England), Chelsea
Fernando Torres (Spain), Liverpool
David Villa (Spain), Valencia
Xavi (Spain), Barcelona

I think that is a pretty accurate list although how Ballack has got in there does make me wonder.

I don't really think Drogba has played enough to deserve his nomination? Don't get me wrong, hes a brilliant footballer, and would be one of my favourites, had he played a full season/year. Same as Essien, really.

Most of the chelsea players shouldn't be on it. No room for Alonso and a host of good defensive midfielders that had very good seasons- and lets not forget the EPL POTY, Giggs! ;)

Messi has it won anyway.

Kaka, who has been awful and pointless at Real, and didn't have a great season for Milan, yet no Fabregas who continues to be fantastic for Spain in every game in the best international team in the world right now, aswell as fantastic in the league with a stupendous amount of assists and a decent amount of goals, he barely missed any of 2009, his injury mostly kept him out at the end of 2008, played tonnes last season anyway(48 games or something in all comps despite injury).

Ballacks actually been pretty good, if a little quiet in terms of headline performances, deserves to be there ahead of some others.

54 appearances with subs last year, 4 goals, not great, 19 assists, very good and that was in a spluttering Arsenal team last year. As yet this year 17 starts, 8 goals, 14 assists, thats flat out winning world player of the year stats and performances, yet not even a nomination.

I'll give Kaka actually having a much better year last year than I thought, but didn't play all that much, this seasons stats 2 goals, both penalties iirc that were given to him by Ronaldo because frankly Ronaldo was scoring goals for a laugh compared to a awful Kaka.

Serious 17 starts, 8 goals, 14 assists doesn't get Fabregas a nomination, thats shocking, absolutely shocking.

Iniesta's a great player, but barely better than Fabregas last year stats wise with more games in a FAR better team, this seasons form Fabregas is simply far better, and lets not pretend the nominations aren't based mostly on current form.

Xavi, should maybe win it based on those nominations, superb, strong, very very helpful defensively and astonishing offensive stats for a not out and out attacking midfielder, 34 assists, 16 goals, that is outstanding.

Ballack, Fabiano, Puyol, Drogba - none should be near the list, all had a decent year but the world's best? C'mon ..

look at u all doubting the defenders, they all would never win it, its a lot easier to look good as an attacker than defender, thats y there is more attackers in there. they should have best attacking footballer and best defending footballer as in the positon.

I hope Ronaldo wins it and not Messi, that would be a nice surprise.

I think Messi is the better player, so it wouldn't be a nice surprise for me.

Though, it is really close.

I want him to win it because it would actually be a surprise, rather than predictable as it was last year too. In reality I'd much rather Iniesta won it, but Ronaldo is the only one that is likely to threaten Messi.

Now that Ronaldo is at Madrid, all he will have to do is look at at a football to be awarded world player of the year.

Surprised and shocked to see Ballack, Drogba, Terry, Lampard and Essien in that list...dont think any of them deserve to be in there tbqh.

Messi, Kaka or Ronaldo should win this i would imagine...well i mean either one.
