Well, this will be amusing :D

Despite having many (some) admirable traits, I am constantly frustrated by my hair. I unfortunately have the worst combination of hair type possible:

1) Moderately curly
2) Thinning hair (going bald in 8-10 years)

As a result, I find it difficult to style my hair and to keep it looking how I want. Whilst I can keep things tidy when relatively short, it eventually gets to the length where there isn't enough hair to ensure that any product won't weigh my hair down. By the time I am happy with my hair, in 20 minutes it might look completely different as the hair curls. Alternatively, if too much product is used, my hair goes flat. I am yet to find a happy compromise - in the worst case scenarios, it can look not too dissimilar to a birds nest!

Has anybody else found a way around this problem? Am I doomed to hair frustration or shall I spend a small fortune getting my hair cut every 3 weeks?

(Oh, and I have big ears, I would look an absolute chumba with a shaved head, so that's out of the question :p)

straighten your hair? I've seen some pretty impressive results, obviously, it'll need to be a bit longer to get any real effect and use from straightners, but it'll give you more options to play with

I do actually own a pair of straighteners (:o). The last time I tried it, the results weren't bad, but again I was annoyed by the problems of having thinner hair than the average bear! I may give it another go.

It there any hair product that's more ideal for thinner hair?

Thanks for the advice, keep it coming guys :)

well obviously you'll have to let it grow out some more for the straightners to have much effect lol, but you can get volumising shampoos or something, or just rub mustard into your scalp :D

My hair gets a curl to it when it grows. Solution is to wear is very short all of the time, and try to get it cut frequently.

My experience of all types of barbers and salons has led me to use cheap barbers, but frequently.

The thing is, I think my hair looks better when longer because it masks my fairly large ears and slightly receding hairline (oh dear, I'm not making myself sound very pretty am I? :D). There is perhaps a week period where my hair is just right (just covering the tops of my ears), but it soon goes uber curly because, believe it or not, my hair grows ridiculously fast. Surely there is a better option than getting a trim every week? When my hair is longer and looks good, I am very happy, so I'm ideally looking for the hair product of the gods.

Wella punk chic light control matt paste is the current weapon of choice.

lol Nitefly.

Quiet you :D

I have been on OCUk far too long to know the result of providing pictures I'm afraid ;)

Besides, the situation isn't 'bad', it could just do with improving :)

No worries. My hair goes curly/wavy too, and my ears are somewhat sticky-outy, but it's quite thick. I keep it short back and sides (grade 1) and pretty short on top.

I have fine crap hair and what sorts it out for me, being a modern metrosexual man confident with his heterosexuality :p, is Paul Mitchell extra body firm finishing spray. Anything like gel or wax weighs my hair down too much. It's expensive though (~£10 for 300ml).

No, you sound a bit like Gollum :p.

Interesting, I might try this out next :)

Can I just buy it from any retailer, such as boots?

Boots don't sell it, I buy it from hairdressers. I've seen it in Supercuts for example...basically any highstreet hair stylist should sell it. Otherwise buy it from Amazon.
