So I thought I was hearing the HD accessing, turns out that the power supply is making very very faint noises that I mistook for disk accessing.

The power supply is brand new? Does it need a little bit of settling time? Or is this a potential problem?

(The sounds dont sound like buzzing or low pitched humming noises, just tapping noises similar to that of the HD - and no its not the HD cause I checked )

OCUK tech support advised me to wait a few days... thoughts?

Cheers all.

Have you tried disconnecting the HDD to ensure you are hearing correctly, acoustics can be a little strange in PC cases.
( or even just un mounting the HDD and/or psu from the case to see if it vibration from the drive/psu )

Is this all the time, or just when its warmed up, or when its working hard?

Weirdly enough mine was doing much the same thing, sounded like something was accessing the harddrive every second or so, like yours the noise was very faint but somewhat distracting.
Good news is mine only did it for a few days after new. Id give it some time to bed in, my guess is the ball-bearings in the fan just need time to settle.

Wow.. glad to hear you have the same prob phod. But I have to say I dont think its the fan as I tried to slow the fan down and the sound was still there.

buy_my_cookies - yes please do tell us how it turns out. Please get close to the psu and listen out for it.

Mine never made this noise, will listen out for it though but I usually pick these things up.

Mine did this, ever so faint 'tapping' sound when it was brand new, i found that giving it a tap back stopped the noise completely. It's only a month or so old now and i just took the side off my case and listened and its silent :)

Ah! So you had it too? I did give it a gently tap but mine still persists.
Ill give it a few more days. But your comments are appreciated.

i have just installed it, because of what you said i tried it out of the case away from the rest of the computer (man this has some long cables). and yes i got the noise as well! its like a strange very faint grinding sound can only hear it when you get real close but once you know its there you hear it a lot more. man i hope this goes away.

lets hope its the fan running or something, let me know if yours every stops i will do so as well. going to give it a week and see what its like.

You could well be right about it not being the fan, the noise had disappeared before I got round to fully investigating.
Just a minute ago I tried sticking my ear right near the PSU and all I hear now is the quiet whoosh/whir of the fan.

Hmm so yours stopped phod? Mine still hasnt... but its not bothering me really...
Think its an RMA issue or should just live with it?
buy_my_cookies howabout you?

Hi folks,

I am in the market for a new system and have been looking at the Corsair HX range, this issue has concerned me though.

Can anyone give an update on how things are going? Has anyone been able to solve this issue?

Cheers,

Harv

Things are perfect theenigma. Go for this PSU. Its superb. Cant hear it at all.

Everything is so well put together. The presentation of the box and the cables and the pouch holding the modular cables, not to mention the pouch for the PSU was very nice and sleek.

10/10 (mind you, real test today with 2 X 5770s coming into my rig :))
