upgraded from E2180 on Gigabyte N650sli DS4L
to
E6300 45nm and a Asus P5QL-E

what a pig these new bios,s are for overclocking...
cant just up the volts and the FSB

why did they have to make the options so complicated i had the 2180 at 3.9ghz, cant get the
E6300 past 3.6Ghz stable

Wish i bought a P35 now £65 down the drain :(

Overcocking an intel bard is slightly different to an nvidia chipset but its still very easy. I had a P5QL-E and found it a great board for overclocking.

I would say the problem might be the ram, cos I (coincidentally) have the EXACT same cpu and a P43 mobo (the Gigabyte GA-P43-ES3G, £10 cheaper than yours too). Mine gets to 3.7GHz on stock volts so it can get much higher, but i only OC using stock volts.

Also, have you checked the fsb : dram ratio? You might need to lower it as you might be severely overclocking it, causing the instabiity. In my setup, Ive got 800MHz ram. The fsb is at 350 so this sets my ram to 1050Mhz which is unstable. I lower the ratio to 5:6 so my ram is now at 840MHz which is perfectly stable

Or memory - NVIDIA have unlinked memory by default, so by changing FSB you don't OC the RAM. On Intel you have only the linked option, so if your RAM stops you, then all you can do is get better RAM modules or change the multiplier (if possible).

yeah ive lowered the dram so it never goes above 800 mhz but dont seem to work but i got some OCZ reaper 8500 on order so will report back

P5QL-E, A good overclocker? You are joking right? Mine wouldn't go beyond 410Mhz FSB. I could get 3.2Ghz maximum on my E8200.

P5QL-E is a decent clocker, if you couldn't get more than 410FSB it was not due to the board. It's rated for 400FSB stock...
