Cheap 125CC scooter/moped?

Hi guys, I'm considering buying a scooter for easy commuting but I'm on a very tight budget and for the bike alone I can't really go past £600.

It's Chinese, should I stay clear?

Yeah I've been hearing that a lot! I haven't come across anyone that's had a skyjet before though, so if some one here as had one please let me know your experiences.

Would I struggle to pick a 2nd hand scooter up for around £600? I don't want something really old, it has to look atleast half decent lol!

Does it have to be a scooter though? Why not a proper geared bike?

I've been using a Gilera DNA125 to get to and from work every day for a year... nice little machine.

I can't be bothered with a geared - And a scooter just seems a lot easier.

I got a second hand chinese 50cc scotter in May for £100 (3 year old) I have to say I agree that they are fun (50cc no where near enough power) but I take the point fun to ride but dont let you mates see you on one. I use mine for work and it uses £5 in petrol every 2 months. Get about 120 mile from £5 so from an economy point of view its good. I no longer need my car for work and I was using £60 a month in petrol and getting 19 mpg.

The only person I knew with skyjet said it was unreliable and cheap for a reason. I'd save and get a Japanese geared 125 or bigger. It's unlikely to be much more effort unless you're in such a congested area that you're constantly on the clutch. As said in the other thread, sticking with an auto simply closes off some of your options, with essentially no real benefit.

Could some one explain to me the benefit of having a geared? :S

It sounds better for a start, not like a hair dryer
Gives you practise if you want a bigger bike when you are older.
More fun to drive
And the bike will be a proper bike, not a pizza delivery bike
Last thing, you can drive will proudness.

A reason I don't want a geared is because I'm small. I'm only 5ft 4. Yeah I know, small! Would I be able to fit on a scooter without any problems?

125s are mostly pretty tiny, CG125s and CBR125s you'd be able to ride just fine.
