EU puts €100bn-a-year price on tackling climate change

Good to see some real effort is going to in to tackling climate change but unless China and the US follow suit it will be a complete waste of time and money!

pretty much, i think it's ridiculous that EU member states have to pay for other countries' output. Brazil, one of the receiving economies, is richer than a some member states, which makes no sense at all

That's correct. The only reason Labour turned pro Europe was because Thatcher changed the Conservative stance on Europe, becoming anti Europe. But prior to Thatcher, Labour was against and Tory was pro.

Thatcher was not anti-EU. If she was, she had 11 years as prime minister in which to pull us out. In fact we got deeper into the EU during that time.

If you don't like us wasting billions on this climate change crap, don't vote for any of the three main parties. It only encourages them.

The EU isn't giving €100bn, the EU have just agreed that the western world should aim to give €100bn a year by 2020.

The change which is apparently happening - which isn't happening by the way - is minuscule. The earth has seen vastly different climates from the current one, and much more hostile ones.

For example, the in Triassic period, most of the earth was a hot, dry, desert. The south pole was sea, and the land mass which is now there was a tropical rainforest, which froze in the permanent night it got in the winter. There have been ice ages too. All this without any human influence, but if humans raise the earth's temperature by 2*C it will be a disaster. FAT CHANCE!

If we want to continue living on this planet we need to adapt to the changes as they come, because much worse than we can do will be upon us in the future. We need to become more diverse too, can't keep all our eggs in one basket. The only reason life survived past the extinction event at the end of the Cretaceous period is because some of the diverse range of species could handle it.

Yeah, let's waste 100bn Euros a year on something that doesn't exist (well it does, but it's nothing humans have any power over).

Because there's no better way to spend it, right?

I advise that you go back and check that, because she was staunch anti Europe. Maybe not to the point where she no longer wished the UK to be a member, but she definitively changed the Conservative stance on to one of being opposed to it. It was only under Thatcher's administration that Labour became pro-Europe. :p Prior to that it was seen as a 'rich mans club' of sorts.
