I have just loaded this up via steam and have looked in the options where I am only being given resolutions in the 4:3 format. My screen is 1366x768 and this res and many others of the 16:9 format are available in GTA 3 and GTA-VC but not in San Andreas.

It's probably worth pointing out that I don't see the first 2 intro screens, I can hear a spraycan being sprayed yet the screen is blank. After a few moments, the main screen comes up with only 4:3 resolutions available in the options.

I have selected widescreen on and off and have tried deleting the settings file, I am running an ION netbook with the default drivers.

Any ideas?

Thanks mate, I have seen that page before and I think that's more for getting it running in 16:10 resolutions. The 16:9 resolutions are supposed to be there by default, they are selectable in GTA3 and VC but not in SA. All I have is 640x480 / 800x600 / 1024x768.

Yes, they are supposed to be there. I don't see why yours aren't appearing. You're not using a modified .exe to support mods or anything? Have you tried Xp compatibility mode?

Nope I am not using a modified .exe

Do we still get XP compatibility mode in W7 Home Premium, wasn't that one of the features of the professional/ultimate version?

The strange thing is that I don't see the opening intro movies, it seems to me like it doesn't like the default load up res (not sure what this is?) and then it puts me on basic 4:3 options.

No, you right click on the exe then properties and it should be on the options there.

Forgot to mention, SA never showed the first intro movies properly on my setup either, that was the retail version.

No good on the compatibility mode unfortunately. I booted in XP SP2 mode and it says game is unavailable, I tried booting it normally via the steam games window and it loaded up fine.

I thought it would be worth doing an update of the vga drivers but the newest ones on the Nvidia site are the ones I have at the moment.

You could try some older drivers. The 186 release is pretty solid, the 19x releases have tended to be a bit problematic in some areas.

easy, just enable widescreen in display settings this will increase FOV in-game so it will fit your widescreen properly

There's a widescreen option in the ingame graphics settings, though, that only asjusts the FoV.
I can't see why you're having problems, 1920x1080 popped up for me...

Though, the patch tends to break more stuff than to fix it... Shame you can't use a v1.0 .exe with the steam version of the game.
