Graphics cards "BEST BANG FOR BUCK" 55pounds or less.

expensive? for 55 pounds you just buy ONE console game and you're asking for a graphics card that will run current and future games lol

if you havent got a suggestion to help me dont post, as ive already said games can be bought cheaper thn tht, and if u meen how can i expect to get a card for 55pounds which will run current games, well the answer is you can. maybe not on my system spec atm but the card is great for 55pounds imo.

To get a decent rig won't cost the earth, something like an am3 system bundle could be bought for only several hundred quid. The advice given to you is good advice, buying just a gpu now is not the way to go because, with all due respect, your current PC is so old.
Save a few quid m8 and then buy:)

lol your talking like 700pounds is loose change to you, maybe it is u buy me one then lol

If it was me i would do the following (sorry if someone else has mentioned the same):

For now, buy the 4670. Despite whats being said by some it will give you a huge boost and you'll be able to play current and maybe a few future titles, albeit at medium/low settings. There will be a bottleneck but it wont be so much that it makes things unbearable. (i've seen vids of COD4 being played on an atom/ion chipset,so trust me the cpu isnt *that* much of an issue with the exception of a couple of games)

Then, save up and buy a second hand am2+/am3 mobo, and a cheap AMD dual core. You'll have the ability to overclock this to pretty high speeds, and before you know it you'll have a very capable machine. Theres no problem in using the PSU/Case/hdd from your old system for now. Hope this helps, it's pretty much the same i thing i did afew years back, except my first gpu was a 7300gs:o

tht is wot im going to do, if possible anyway check link:
this guy seems to have a marginly worse spec thn me and he can play crysis

it is 7stdd2j

OPTIPLEX GX620 DESKTOP - P4 630 (3.00GHZ)
MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL
1GB 533MHZ NON-ECC DDRII MEMORY(2*512MB)
80GB (7200RPM) SERIAL ATA HARD DRIVE
48X DVD-ROM/CD-RW COMBO DRIVE

This spec? Don't think there's any point upgrading beyond a Geforce 7 or Radeon X1800 series card, the CPU will be a bottleneck in modern games.

just a general question, i am wanting to upgrade to 4gb of ram, wot ram do i get??? i know nothing about good ram for games

at the moment, if sr4470 is correct about your spec, you are using DDR2 RAM. The problem is that its starting to get much more expensive as ddr3 is introduced. You should shop around for pc6400 memory, if i were you i'd go for the value stuff as enthusiast ram wouldn't be worth it at this point in time

yes i think so, windows is different though i got xphome, everyone saying cpu is bottleneck i know this but other people have had "ok" results thts all im after. and the graphics card and ram i will be putting in new rig when i have cash for it

if i bought a 1gb stick of ddr3 will it even be compatible wiv my machine??
and pc6400 memory????? wot does this meen as only terms i understand is size lol

no ddr3 would not run in your machine, they use different shaped slots. PC6400 is Ram that runs at a max speed of 800mhz, PC**** is just the naming convention used for all Ram speeds, you'l see it pretty much everywhere. in terms of size to be honest 2gb will be enough for now considering you're probably on xp 32-bit. If you really want to go for 4gb then theres nothing stopping you though i suppose

If you buy 4GB of DDR2 memory brand new, you won't have anything left to pay for a graphics upgrade. I'd suggest going with 2GB and a midrange graphics card (both second-hand) to stay within your £55 budget.

the memory is not included with the budget, budget is purely for graphics card

Well in that case go ahead and look for a Radeon HD4670 :)

with current spec i can play stalker clear skys on medium settings 1024x768 at 23fps how much of an increase in fps can i expect to see??? after just graphics update to hd4670 1gb ddr3 from 6600gt 256mb ddr3

How about a used 8800GT, 8800GTX, 9800GT, etc? They should be in the £55 price range. Or you may get lucky and manage to get a used 4580. I rarely buy new graphics cards nowadays because they depreciate faster than a new car.
