Periodic loss of aero in windows 7

Every so often windows would revert to aero basic for no reason before going back to full aero effects.

The graphics card (260-216) makes a whining noise before returning to normal.

Any idea what's going on?

Does this happen mostly in the early hours like around now?

Not sure but yea it happened just now. I'm wondering if it's due to a change of drivers which i've just done today.

It's definatly not happening because of programs you're opening?

I know 3DMark Vantage will make aero turn off, aswell as certain versions of MPC(or it might be the realmedia codec, not sure).

If this isn't the case then ignore me, just remembered about Vantage when you said you'd updated your graphics drivers.

It could be winSAT that has started when it was scheduled, to disable it

1) right click on my computer then click manage
2) goto Task Scheduler (click Here and navigate to the one highlighted)
3) right click on the winSAT then disable or delete it.

That should cure it from doing a random test at night.

Could be that i'll give it a go. Seems strange to test something without informing the user though.

Yea it does when your playing games or watching stuff which is very annoying.

yeah it was set to go off at 1am which is about when this odd thing happened. Cheers for the insight guys.

What does winSat actually do, because mine was apparently run about 25 minutes ago and i didn't notice anything at all.

It's that windows assessment thing which gives you a score at the end of it. Tests aero and such. No wonder it turned off briefly
